The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) - the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development - announced the implementation of a 3-day “Green Leader” training camp in the Beit El Wadi area in Wadi El Natroun (Natrn Valley), for 180 high school students, male and female, representing 9 schools in Cairo and Fayoum governorates, as part of the implementation of the “Green Minds” initiative.
Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD said that the high school camps were designed within the “Green Minds” initiative to raise awareness of the UN (SDGs) sustainable development goal.
She explained that the “Green Leader” camp aims to form a generation of leaders to ensure sustainability influence through experiential learning activities, interactive lectures, and workshops.
Sherifa stressed the importance of promoting the concepts of responsible production and consumption, climate change, and climate action and promoting the introductory principles of entrepreneurship among students through the “Mini Raed (Entrepreneur) game.
Notably, students are given a period of 20 days after the end of the training camp to plan small projects and initiatives, followed by interviews to evaluate those projects, aiming to put them on the right path towards entrepreneurship and creating sustainable and environmentally friendly projects.
Participating students receive certificates of appreciation for their activity and interaction at the end of the camp under the name “I am the Protector of the Earth.”
