On Cop28 sidelines: Egypt’s Planning Minister, Fortescue Future Industries officials meet to discuss boosting cooperation in the field of green energy

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development who also acts as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of The Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE), met with Mark Hutchinson, CEO of Fortescue Future Industries, and Mr. Moataz Qandil, Regional President of Fortescue Future Industries in MENA, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the field of energy. The meeting took place during Cop28 which is currently being held starting from November 30 to December 12, 2023, in Dubai.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Ayman Soliman, Executive Director of TSFE, Dr. Mona Essam, Assistant Minister for Sustainable Development, and Maryam Mahmoud, Senior Economic Researcher at the Ministry of Planning’s Sustainable Development Unit.
During the meeting, El-Said highlighted the state’s efforts in the field of green hydrogen.
She shared insights on the establishment of the “National Council for Green Hydrogen and its Derivatives” headed by Egypt’s Prime Minister as a sign of the state’s seriousness and commitment to stimulating investment in the field of green hydrogen and its derivatives.
El-Said stressed TSFE’s interest in investing in green projects, especially green hydrogen projects, in light of the world's trend to use green hydrogen as the "fuel of the future."
El-Said highlighted the importance of building on the cooperation that took place during the COP27, which Egypt hosted in November 2022, by signing agreements in the field of green hydrogen and green ammonia.
The two parties discussed exchanging benefits from the initiatives undertaken by Egypt in many reform fields, as well as the support that the company can provide in the field of hydrogen and green ammonia.
