Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development participates in the UN Cop28 held in Dubai

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is participating in the 28th edition of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), which begins its activities during the period from November 30 to December 12, 2023, in the United Arab Emirates, in the presence of H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development.
El-Said is scheduled to participate in several side events during Cop28 activities, in addition to participating in several bilateral meetings with senior officials.
The Ministry’s agenda of activities scheduled to be organized during Cop28 includes a session entitled “Women’s Participation in Climate Action,” which will be held by the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects on December 4, in the presence of El-Said.
Meanwhile, the Sustainable Development Unit of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development will organize a side event entitled “Harmonizing Climate Finance and Development to achieve sustainable development goals and accelerate climate action,”.
The event aims to examine the interlinkages between development finance and climate finance, to promote the achievement of the goals of the 2030 Agenda, as well as the Paris Agreement, with the participation of several high-level policymakers and relevant stakeholders.
The Ministry's Sustainable Development Unit is also holding an event entitled "The Initiative for the Future of a Decent Life for Africa Capable of Climate Adaptation towards the Africa We Want in 2063", in the presence of the Minister of Planning and Economic Development.
The event aims to highlight the growing importance of the “A Decent Life for a Climate Resilient Africa” initiative for the African continent in light of the development and climate challenges it faces.
The agenda of Dr. Hala El-Said also includes her participation in many events hosted by various governments, international organizations, and global companies, which address several different topics.
Moreover, Dr. Hala El-Said will participate in the launch of an event entitled “Safe Middle East and Africa Initiative: Expanding Agriculture and Food Systems for Economic Development,” which is organized by the Global Green Growth Institute, as well as participating in a side event entitled “Employer Priorities for a Just Transition and a Successful Employment Agenda,” which is held by the International Organization for Employers.
El-Said is also scheduled to participate in the high-level discussion session of the Arab Women Leadership Summit, which is hosted by the COP 28 Presidency in cooperation with the “WISER” Foundation, in addition to her participation in the side event organized by PepsiCo entitled “Unlocking Opportunities in the Middle East: Transitioning to Renewable Energy.”
El-Said will meet with some high-level officials from several countries, heads of international organizations, and representatives of the private sector. The agenda of bilateral meetings includes a bilateral meeting with Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council of the Global. Green Growth Institute as well as a meeting with Khush Choksy, senior vice president for Middle East and Turkey Affairs and acting president of the U.S-India Business Council at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Steve Lutz, Executive Director of the Egyptian-American Business Council, Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce for Middle East Affairs.
Her Excellency will also meet with Mr. Andrew Forrest, Chairman of Fortesco Group, and Mr. Mark Hutchinson, CEO of Fortesco Green Energy Company.
During the activities of Cop28, Egypt’s National Initiative for Smart Green Projects will be present in a side event entitled (Building a Sustainable Future: The Role of Smart Green Projects in Accelerating the Transition to Sustainable Energy).
It will also participate in another event titled (Accelerating Multi-Level Action for Smart Sustainable Urbanization), and a session entitled (Youth in Localizing Sustainability).
The initiative also participates in the event held entitled (Food, Agriculture and Water: Promoting Flexible Adaptation to Address Climate Challenges Through Smart Green Projects).
(COP28) this year comes under the slogan “Unite. Act. Deliver.” which urges partners to work together and unify efforts to enable them to provide effective support to African countries to work and implement to achieve the ambitious goal of the initiative for their societies.
