The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development received a high-level delegation from the National School of Public Policy  (NSPP) in Pakistan to discuss aspects of enhancing future cooperation.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Sherifa Sharif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry.

The delegation included a group of senior Pakistani government officials from various sectors headed by Mr. Asim Iqbal, Secretary General of the National School of Public Policy.

Participants in the meeting from the Ministry of Planning were Dr. Heba Mogheib, Head of the Regional Planning Sector, Dr. Mohamed Alaa, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Office, and Director of the Human Rights Unit, Aya Nawar, Deputy Head of the Sustainable Development Unit, Ithar Ahmed, International Relations Specialist.

During the meeting, Dr. Sherifa Sherif reviewed an overview of the establishment of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) from 1956 until the issuance of the Prime Minister’s decision to rename the institute as the “National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development”, to keep pace with the priorities of the Egyptian state in implementing Egypt’s Vision 2030, reducing corruption and consolidating good governance practices.

Sherifa explained that NIGSD’s vision is to support, enhance, and develop good governance systems to achieve competitiveness and sustainable development.

Its mission also comes to strengthen and develop Egypt’s position in the field of governance and sustainable development by providing consultations, research, and training programs, which seek and emphasize the dissemination of the culture, values, and practices of sustainability and the activation of governance mechanisms.

Sherifa referred to the range of training programs offered by NIGSD, and the partnerships it has concluded with major centers and universities at the local and international levels to provide training programs at the highest level.

Discussions also highlighted the initiatives launched by NIGSD, including the “Be an Ambassador” initiative for sustainable development, which aims to build and develop capabilities in the field of sustainable development and focuses on the development of modern environmental thought.

Dr. Heba Mogheib referred to the Decent Life Initiative, as this initiative is a clear implementation of the slogan of the UNSDG | Leave No One Behind.

The main goal of this initiative is to provide infrastructure and basic services to the village population, who constitute 60% of the total population.

For her part, Aya Nawar reviewed the role of the Sustainable Development Unit and the tasks assigned to it, as the first and most important task for which the unit was established was to update Vision 2030, the first version of which was launched in 2016.

The Ministry launched the updated version of Egypt’s vision a few days ago.
