Ambassador Hisham Badr who is acting as Assistant of Planning Minister for Strategic Partnerships, Excellence, and Initiatives met recently with Major General Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai, to discuss ways of cooperation.

The meeting witnessed the presence of presence of Ms. Soha Saeed, Executive Director of the Egypt Award for Government Excellence, and Dr. Enas Samir, the Deputy Governor of South Sinai.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Hisham Badr congratulated the Governor of South Sinai on the “Basata Camp” project winning second place in the (Small Local Projects) category of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects in its second session 2023.

For his part, Major General Khaled Fouda reviewed the most prominent records that the governorate has achieved recently to witness a wide boom in various sectors.

He referred to the procedures for implementing the “Smart Green Sharm El-Sheikh Project,” which aims to preserve development and the environment together, through the rational use of resources, in the face of climate change.

The project also aims to enhance the systems’ ability to adapt, the ability to confront natural risks and disasters, increase reliance on renewable energy, and adopt patterns of consumption, production, and sustainability.

Major General Khaled Fouda also reviewed the work that has been done to activate the system to eliminate carbon emissions, use alternative energy means such as solar energy, expand the establishment of electric and gas charging stations, replace public and private means of transportation to operate with this new energy and change and unify the visual identity of the city of Sharm El Sheikh.

During the meeting, the tangible efforts of the “Urban Observatory” work team in the governorate, in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, were noted to monitor performance indicators in all sectors of sustainable development, such as economic, social, urban, and environmental development.
