Egypt’s Planning Ministry participates in a workshop in Kenya to exchange experiences on applying (DEGURBA) approach

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development participated, represented by Dr. Heba Mogheib, Supervisor of the Regional Planning Sector, and Dr. Mujahid Hassan, supervisor of the space imaging unit at the National Center for Spatial Information Infrastructure, in a workshop to exchange experiences on applying the degree of urbanization approach (DEGURBA) to produce comparable urban data in selected countries.
The workshop was held in Nairobi, Kenya, with the participation of representatives from 13 countries: Egypt, Kenya, Peru, Chile, Malawi, Indonesia, Mexico, Tunisia, Philippines, Azerbaijan, Nepal, Kazakhstan, and Ecuador.
The workshop seeks to present the lessons learned and the experiences of these countries in applying the (DEGURBA) approach using their national data and relying on emerging urban classifications to measure the indicators of SDGs 11 and to produce detailed data on the level of the various local administrative units.
Dr. Heba Mogheib said that participation in the workshop comes within the framework of completing the efforts of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development to implement the degree of urbanization approach in Egypt (DEGURBA) in cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Program (Habitat) UN-Habitat.
During the workshop, Mugheib reviewed the successful Egyptian experience in the field of applying the urbanization degree approach in Egypt, and the Ministry’s efforts in developing the integrated information infrastructure system for the regional planning system in Egypt were also reviewed.
