A report issued by, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development reviewed the most important projects targeted in the supply and internal trade sector in the plan for the current fiscal year (FY) 23/2024.
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, indicated that the supply and internal trade sector aims to provide and make goods available for the first-care categories.
She further said that the supply and internal trade sector aims to develop the supply chain for strategic goods and improve the efficiency of its various components by quality standards. International and efficient performance.
The report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development indicated the most important targeted projects during the year 2023/2024 in the supply and internal trade sector, which are the establishment of silos to preserve the strategic stock of wheat, reach the lowest possible percentage of loss, and maintain a safe strategic balance of it that is not exposed to spoilage factors through strict maintenance system.
The most important projects targeted during the year 2023/2024 include creating new attractive areas and agricultural expansion to encourage farmers to grow wheat and grains near the sites where silos are being established, developing and constructing 5 bunkers to increase storage capacities and preserve local wheat with a capacity of 140,000 tons.
Additionally, the plan establishes new logistical areas to provide all food commodities at reasonable prices and of high quality, to control markets as well as establish commercial malls and bakery complexes, which will provide new job opportunities and make products and goods available within the governorates.
The report reviewed the sector’s most important achievements, according to data issued by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.
These achievements include developments in the sectors of commodity support, subsidized bread, and basic commodities to citizens.
In the field of developing consumer complexes, about 494 consumer complexes were developed, for EGP 260 million, and thus the total number of what was developed during the period (2020 - 2022) becomes about 574 complexes, at a cost of approximately EGP 335 million.
Within the framework of aiming to achieve food security, during the year 2022, about 3.78 million tons of imported wheat and 3.79 million tons of local wheat were supplied, about 270,000 tons of local crude oil and 380,000 tons of imported oil were obtained.
