29 October 2023

The National Jury for the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects met, headed by Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, a climate pioneer for the Egyptian presidency of the COP27 and head of the committee, to select the winning projects in the 2nd phase of the second cycle of the initiative, with 3 projects from each category, for a total of 18 projects nationwide.

These projects are planned to participate in Cop 28, which will be held in Dubai next November.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Hisham Badr, Deputy Minister of Planning for Strategic Partnerships, Excellence, and Initiatives who is also acting as Chief Coordinator of the initiative, Dr. Rasha Ragheb, Executive Director of the National Training Academy, and Khaled Mustafa, Member of the National Training Academy.

The meeting also witnessed the presence of Engy Yamani, representative of the National Women's Council, Dr. Ayman Mashhour, Advisor to the Minister of Communications, Dr. Hussein Abaza, Advisor to the Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohamed Kamal, Director of Local Development for Institutional Development.

Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin praised the support of all the partners of the initiative and related committees in the meeting.

He also emphasized that the initiative is still looking for local solutions to the problems of climate change and aims to unite national policy and the localization of sustainable development and its goals.

Mohieldin addressed the two dimensions of sustainable development and investing in technological development and digital technology.

Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin emphasized the importance of fully documenting the initiative, its activities, its various stages, and its projects so that this information can be trusted to develop and spread the work of the initiative worldwide.

However, Ambassador Hisham Badr discussed the most important developments observed in the second session of the National Smart Green Projects Initiative, the most important of which is the increase in the number of training courses to 60 courses, including more than 20 courses.

Badr added that as a result of increased awareness, the initiative of this session increased in number of participants, as the initiative reached 20 million Egyptians.

Badr explained that the initiative sought to provide multiple sources of funding through the creation of several strategic partnerships.

Badr also explained that all these developments culminated in turning the initiative into an integrated platform for green projects, environmental work, excellence, and innovation in Egypt.

Khaled Mustafa, a member of the National Committee of Judges, asserted that the success of the initiative lies in the adoption of a practical scientific approach to its evaluation and the ability to implement the principle of decentralization and governance, involving all agencies and sectors.
