07 October 2023
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development won the Silver Award for Excellence in Practice 2023 in the Talent Development category from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), for the Leadership for Government Excellence training program, which the Ministry implemented through the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) in partnership with the American University in Cairo (AUC) and King's College in London.
The Ministry of Planning achieved this victory during the Executive Development Conference at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, one of the most famous universities in Switzerland in economics.
In this context, H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, emphasized the importance of building the capabilities of government agency leaders.
She further noted that training and capacity-building are among the basic pillars of the success of any entity, through organizing a plan aimed at providing workers with skills and capabilities related to the nature of their work.
El-Said explained that the Ministry’s efforts in training and capacity building came within the framework of a broader approach by the Egyptian state to expand investment in people, achieve the goal of building Egyptian human beings, and implement Egypt’s Vision 2030.
During the conference activities, Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD, presented the stages of implementation of the Leadership for Government Excellence training program, which was implemented within the framework of the successful tripartite partnership signed in 2019 between the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and two of the most prestigious universities, AUC and King’s College in London.
The program aims to build government leadership cadres in Egypt, prepare future leaders in the administrative apparatus, and train them in a manner consistent with the digital transformation system, noting the training impact and the extent to which the trainees participating in the program benefit from developing their work.
Sherif also pointed out the importance of training and developing the human element in proportion to the move to the New Administrative Capital, explaining that the leadership program for government excellence took place within the framework of this move to the capital, which is not just a spatial move, but a move to change thinking in government work.
NIGSD executive director said that the training program, which continues over a period of three months between training at the American University in Cairo and King's College in London, has reached 120 government employees representing 24 ministries, with a total of 360 training hours.
The program also resulted in the implementation of 24 projects and the study of several other projects, as these projects demonstrate the ability of trained administrative staff to lead change and effective leadership in their institutions in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
Notably, the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) is a global non-profit organization dedicated to developing management and promoting excellence in management at the global level.
