Main / Media / News / Egypt's planning minister leaves for NY to attend The 2023 SDG Summit

16 September 2023

The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, is traveling to New York to participate in the 2023 Sustainable Development Summit (The SDG Summit), which will take place on September 17-19.

The program of El-Said's participation in the summit includes participation in a special session of the UN Local High Impact Initiative scheduled for September 17, 2023, as this initiative is led by a coalition of UN organizations (Local 2030), especially the Human Settlements Program of the UN and UNDP.

Egypt is participating in this initiative through the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, as Egypt is one of the leading countries in this field, due to its recent actions at the national level to bring the SDGs to the governors.

Dr. Hala El-Said will also participate as a keynote speaker in the side event "Financing Localization or Localization of Finance" organized by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the (Local 2030) Alliance, and the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) on Sunday, September 17.

The event aims to highlight the efforts of the Egyptian state to localize sustainable development goals.

The purpose of the event is also to provide an overview of Egypt's experience in the preparation of Voluntary Local Reports (VLR) and to provide an opportunity for an exchange of expertise and experience between Egypt and other countries in this field.

El-Said will also participate in the session on Sustainable Development Goals organized by the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations High-Impact Initiative on Digital Public Infrastructure, in addition to participating in the plenary sessions of the Summit on Sustainable Development, which are planned to take place on 18 and 19 September 2023.

In the events of September 18, Dr. Hala El-Said will participate as a speaker in the session on economic perspectives and sustainable development goals organized by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

Dr. Hala El-Said also received an invitation from Børge Brende, President of the World Economic Forum, to participate in the session of global economic leaders scheduled for September 18.

This session will bring together policymakers, business leaders, and high-level experts to discuss how to strengthen the fundamental trust needed to advance a shared global agenda in the current and complex geopolitical environment.

In conjunction with the summit activities, several bilateral meetings are planned, including a meeting between Dr. Hala El-Said and World Economic Forum president Børge Brende to discuss Egypt's agenda to attract foreign direct investment as well as the implementation of development initiatives in various sectors and a bilateral meeting with the Coordinator of the African Adaptation Initiative (AAI), Ambassador Seyni Nafo.
