The Deputy Minister of Planning concludes the activities of a national consultation session on Egypt’s pledges toward achieving the 2030 SDGs

The Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Ahmed Kamali, recently attended a national consultation session on the pledges of the Arab Republic of Egypt to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, held today by the Ministry at H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and Elena Panova, United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Egypt.
This took place as part of stakeholder engagement in formulating and adopting proposed national commitments to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in preparation for this month's Sustainable Development Goals 2023 Summit in New York.
Dr. Ahmed Kamali explained that the session was the first of its kind and witnessed strong participation by participants, representatives of civil society, academics, experts, and parliamentarians.
Kamali explained that the session witnessed a level of effective dialogue, stressing the importance of the participation process, as happened previously, by participating in Egypt’s Vision 2030 and updating it starting in 2016, going through the stages of modernization, as well as participating in developing, achieving, and implementing policies.
Kamali drew attention to the success of the national consultations, which was reflected in the level of statements and proposals of participants. Kamali emphasized that the proposed pledges were systematically chosen to fulfill certain promises that the Egyptian state made while being consistent with Egypt's annual economic and social plans.
Kamali added that there are specific obligations that are closely related to all the goals and indicators of sustainable development and also take into account the institutional and legislative situation to achieve the desired goals.
Kamali pointed out that all the utterances made by the participants in the session will be considered and examined to reflect the different opinions of the participants.
Kamali emphasized the high position of Egypt in the international community and the field of sustainable development, It was not only expressed in the level of indicators of sustainable development, but it was also expressed in the desire to share Egypt's experience to achieve the goals of sustainable development in several international forums.
Moreover, Dr. Ahmed Kamali led an interactive dialogue on the proposed national pledges, which was attended by all participants.
During the session, questions were asked in an interactive electronic format and answered by the participants on a wide variety of topics, including challenges hindering the progress of human development, challenges hindering the inclusion of women in the labor market, and problems hindering participation. private sector leadership and its investments.
There was also a question from the participant's point of view about additional proposals and priority areas that should be included in the list of commitments.
