26 August 2023
The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, held the third meeting in a series of meetings to introduce a storytelling series entitled (Salah, Omnia & Development Goals), which NIGSD launched at the end of last February at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, with the attendance of 130 children from 13 schools in Alexandria.
The third meeting was held for 22 African children from the State of Somalia residing and studying in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of the NIGSD, indicated that the initiative to issue stories of goodness and security and development goals targets children from 8-12 years old.
The initiative falls within the framework of an integrated plan developed by NIGSD to raise awareness of international goals at the local and regional levels as an important step taken by NIGSD to contribute to achieving the goals of Egypt's Vision 2030 and the aspirations of the African Continent's Agenda 2063 (The Africa We Want).
Sherif explained that the goal of (the Salah, Omnia & Development Goals) storytelling series and the development goals is to simplify the concept of sustainable development and its seventeen goals, and shed light on its importance and ways to achieve it attractively and interestingly through seventeen short stories suitable for children in the primary stage.
Dr. Hanan Rizk, Director of the African Development Center at the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, indicated that the initiative was launched through the African Development Center at the institute to present stories in simplified Arabic, as a gift for the institute to educate Egyptian and African children.
NIGSD held the first meeting with the children of the (I Build an Author) initiative last March, in the presence of 25 children from the primary stage, accompanied by a group of the initiative's children's parents and supervisors.
The initiative of the storytelling series entitled (Salah, Omnia & Development Goals) was officially launched for the children of the African continent, at NIGSD’s headquarters, for 27 children from Sudan and South Sudan residing and studying in Cairo, accompanied by their supervisors, during March as well.
