09 August 2023

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development held the graduation ceremony of the first batch of the summer program for training university students in its sixth session, which the ministry organizes annually in the presence of the ministry's leading officials.

The training activities for the first batch included holding several workshops to introduce the sectors and units of the ministry, presented by the leaders of the ministry and its affiliates and representatives of each unit. Several field visits were organized with the participation of 40 students from public and private universities nationwide.

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, affirmed the ministry’s keenness to empower and support the capabilities of youth and to provide them with the necessary training opportunities, out of their belief in the need to highlight their capabilities and qualify them for the labor market with the necessary competence as future leaders.

El-Said explained that young people constitute a positive force to advance development when providing them with the knowledge and opportunities they need, stressing the need for them to acquire the necessary education and skills to contribute to a productive economy. In addition to their need to access the labor market, they can accommodate their capabilities in the labor force.

During the graduation ceremony of the first batch of the sixth session, Tariq Abdel-Khalek, Advisor to the Minister of Planning and Economic Development for Human Resources Affairs, said that the current batch was one of the best batches for the summer training program for university students.

Abdel-Khalek added that the training workshops presented by the ministry's leaders during the summer training period contributed to introducing young people to the mutations and changes that occurred in government work.

Abdel-Khalek explained that the first batch of the current course reached 40 students from different Egyptian universities, and it is one of the most numerous courses. He thanked the human resources team for arranging the program and receiving the students.

The ministry also held a training workshop for students to introduce a national initiative for smart green projects. During the workshop, Ambassador Hisham Badr, the national coordinator of the initiative, presented it and reviewed its categories, procedures, and objectives.

The workshop schedule included a training workshop on the programs, performance unit, and decent life projects. Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for the Follow-up of the Sustainable Development Plan, talked about the program methodology, performance, and the Decent Life Project and incentives for distinguished performance during the workshop.

During the workshop on the sector's work, Dr. Mohamed Maghribi, head of the human development sector, highlighted the mobile service center project that the ministry is working on and how to distribute investments in service projects and deliver them to citizens in their places and reach remote places.

Dr. Heba Mogheeb, Head of the Regional Planning Sector at the Ministry, reviewed the definition and requirements of local development in a training workshop held in the sector, explaining that development represents a "process" of diversifying and enhancing economic and social activities at the local level, using and coordinating material and non-material resources.

During the workshop held on the role of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD, discussed the role and vision of NIGSD and the importance of training and capacity building, which is one of the main pillars of the success of any institution, by organizing a scheme aimed at providing workers with relevant skills and capabilities.

The agenda also included holding a training workshop that reviewed the ministry’s strategic management framework. During the workshop, Ms. Omnia Kamal, the supervisor of the Central Department of Strategic Management, discussed the purpose of the department, noting that it is represented in the development and continuity of the strategy and work methodology through which the unit achieves the tasks required within a system of organs.

Soha Saeed, Executive Director of the Egypt Award for Government Excellence, confirmed that the main objective of the awards was to establish distinguished and superior government agencies in various fields to improve the quality of life of citizens and to emphasize the competitiveness and leadership of the Egyptian state.

Amira Hossam, Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for Sustainable Development Affairs, reviewed the definition of sustainable development and its applications at the local level, as well as reviewing all national projects to which the Ministry of Planning contributes and linking them to sustainable development goals.
