Main / Media / News / Planning Ministry witnesses the internal arbitration activities of the "Youth Initiative for Development" for the academic year 2022/2023 at Port Said University

05 August 2023

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development - the training arm of the Ministry - and the Supreme Council of Universities witnessed the internal arbitration activities of the Youth for Development Initiative for the academic year 2022/2023 at Port Said University, in preparation for selecting development projects and policy papers that will be qualified for competition at the national level.

This comes in light of the follow-up to the pre-final qualifying stage among the universities participating in the second phase of the initiative.

Dr. Mona Al-Jarf, Advisor to the Minister for Economic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Alaa, Head of the Human Rights Unit and General Coordinator of the Initiative, participated from the Ministry, and Dr. Mona Hejres, Assistant Secretary-General of the Council, from the Supreme Council of Universities.

Dr. Ayman Ibrahim, the university president, praised the role of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development as a permanent partner of Port Said University in many initiatives.

Ibrahim emphasized that integration and alliance between different universities is part of the higher education strategy in Egypt. He noted that Port Said University is participating for the second time in the Youth for Development initiative.

Dr. Mohamed Alaa reviewed the goals of the initiative, stressing that dialogue between young people from different Egyptian regions and universities represents a fundamental value of the initiative, noting that the initiative aims to communicate the views and proposals of young people to decision-makers and to strive for their ideas and proposals to see the light by seeking to implement them in practice.

Dr. Mona Al-Jarf also reviewed the state's plan for achieving sustainable, inclusive growth and defined the competitive neutrality strategy, and gave a comprehensive definition of the economic reform program and structural reforms, noting that Egypt had succeeded in achieving many positive results in the period before the Corona pandemic about inflation and unemployment.

This is in addition to introducing the structural reform program and its role in improving the structure of the Egyptian economy. It also refers to the experiences of some successful countries on the path to structural reform.

Dr. Rawia Rizk, Vice President of the University and Coordinator of the Youth for Development Initiative on behalf of Port Said University, expressed her happiness with the university's participation for the second time in a row in the Youth for Development initiative and referred to the joint work that brings the university together with the Ministry of Planning, which comes on top of the government excellence file, and the file of Youth for Development Initiative.

Dr. Mona Hejres, Assistant Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Universities, explained that the Youth for Development initiative is a clear model for enhancing cooperation between youth and various state institutions in light of Egypt's Vision 2030 represented in cooperation between the Ministries of Planning and Economic Development, Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Hejres emphasized that the initiative, with its two current tracks (policy papers and development projects), promotes three principles of the strategy of higher education and scientific research, namely: sustainability, active participation, leadership, and creativity.
