Planning Minister hails e-voting at Egypt's Musicians Syndicate elections

Main / Media / News / Planning Minister hails e-voting at Egypt's Musicians Syndicate elections

01 August 2023

H.E Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the elections for the Board of Directors of the Musicians Syndicate took place within the framework of completing constructive cooperation efforts between the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the Administrative Prosecution Authority (APA) in the field of e-voting.

El-Said’s remarks came after the end of the Musicians Syndicate Board of Directors elections and the announcement of the results a short while ago. In this election, singer-songwriter Mostafa Kamel was unanimously re-elected for four years by acclamation.

El-Said indicated that the elections, using the e-voting system, began at nine o'clock this morning and continued until the end of voting at five o'clock in the evening. 31 candidates applied for membership on the Syndicate's Board of Directors, 12 of whom were chosen to form the Council.

This is done through 23 e-voting committees represented in 7 sub-committees in Cairo Governorate at the headquarters of the Representative Professions Syndicate. In addition, there are 16 committees within the Republic's governorates.

El-Said confirmed the success of the election experience through the electronic voting program. This is an unprecedented success for the eighth time in a row since the service application last October.

El-Said indicated that the elections in this electronic system included the elections of the Administrative Prosecution Authority Club - the Syndicate of Musical Professions at the level of the Republic - the Wafd Party - the Hajj and Umrah Association for members of the Administrative Prosecution - the fund for workers in judicial bodies and auxiliary bodies (9% fund) - the Ahmed Orabi Association - and the elections of the Syndicate of Applicants at the level of the Republic.

For his part, Engineer Ashraf Abdel Hafeez, Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for Digital Transformation Affairs, stated that the e-voting program aims to develop the information infrastructure and services provided by the Administrative Prosecution Authority to reach the development of means and technologies that keep pace with rapid technological development and build an integrated information society.

Abdel Hafeez praised the efficiency and success of this established system using the latest electronic technologies that help automate the electoral system’s work cycle within the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the availability of full technical support from the Administrative Prosecution Authority, equipment, devices, and connectivity lines necessary to ensure the successful operation of the system.

The E-voting process takes place using computers equipped with touch screens to select candidates. This is instead of paper and traditional ballot papers. The system relies on special electronic coding technology in the process of calculating votes. This ensures the integrity of the procedures and results accuracy.
