29 July 2023

The "Irada" initiative headed the delegation of the Arab Republic of Egypt moving to the State of South Korea, within the framework of the Knowledge Sharing Program held in cooperation between the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development represented by the Irada Initiative, and the Korean side represented by the Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Korean Institute for Development, with a mandate from the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, in cooperation and financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

During the tour, the Egyptian delegation met with the Korean experts team. This included university professors and others from the Korean Institute for Development (KDI), as it is one of the leading development institutes in the world. The visit aimed to review the initial findings of the Korean research team and discuss them with the Egyptian side.

The visit also witnessed the organization of many visits to Korean governmental and non-governmental organizations and institutions concerned with the business environment of startups and entrepreneurship, most notably the Korean Credit Fund, which aims to empower promising small and medium enterprises (SMEs), especially startups, in addition to the Science and Technology Policy Institute, and the Institute for Startup Development and Entrepreneurship, in addition to the Global Center for Knowledge Exchange and Development, and the Technology Incubator Program for Startups, in addition to Inha University, which is a university that specializes in organizing and supporting startups.

It has a government-funded laboratory that supports technological innovation startups.

The visit also included visits to startups, including Korean startup Flitto. In addition, they visited the Pangyu Industrial Park, which encompasses all Korea's information and communication technology industries.

It is scheduled that the Egyptian delegation will receive, during the coming month of October, a policy paper prepared by some Korean experts, which includes solutions and proposals to improve the business environment for startups in Egypt, as well as the experts' vision of the action plan necessary to put these solutions and suggestions into practice.

The tour also witnessed the hosting of the Egyptian Ambassador to South Korea, Mr. Khaled Abdel Rahman, and the Egyptian and Korean delegations.

This was during the celebration organized by the Egyptian Embassy in Seoul, Korea, on the anniversary of the July 23 revolution, in the presence of Mr. Park Young-min, Coordinator of International and Multilateral Affairs at the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

For his part, Ambassador Khaled Abdul Rahman praised during his speech the long history of cooperation that brings the two countries together. This is especially true for trade, innovation, and economic growth. During his speech, Mr. Park Young-Min emphasized Egypt's pioneering role in regional and international agendas and in dealing with global economic changes.
