Main / Media / News / Gov’t allocated EGP 2.4 Bn to implement 319 development projects in Qena during FY 21/22: Planning Minister

27 July 2023

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued the "Citizen Follow-up" report in Qena Governorate, which includes an inventory of projects fully completed in the main sectors, during the fiscal year (2022/21), according to the program and performance methodology, and links it to the relevant sustainable development goals.

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, confirmed that the ministry attaches special importance to activating community participation, transparency, and accountability, by moving from the "Citizen Investment Plan" to "Citizen's Follow-Up", to spread awareness among citizens of the state's achievements.

This is to ensure the subsequent follow-up by citizens of the implemented projects, within the framework of the efforts to localize the sustainable development goals in the governorates, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030.

The "Citizen Follow-up" reports aim to localize sustainable development goals in the governorates, activate the State's General Planning Law No. 18 of 2022, and activate the subsequent follow-up of projects while enhancing community participation, transparency, and accountability.

El-Said indicated that the implementation of 319 development projects in 5 sectors (local development, education, housing, irrigation, electricity) at a total investment cost of EGP 2.4 billion in Qena Governorate during the fiscal year (2021/2022) has been completed.

Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, said that 8 projects have been completed to improve agricultural productivity and maximize water resource utilization, in line with the second sustainable development goal, "eliminating hunger."

Helmy added that 72 projects have been implemented in the pre-university education sector, including establishing, replacing, and expanding 982 classrooms.

The report reviewed the relevant UN sustainable development goals, noting that for the sixth goal, "clean water", 12 projects for drinking water and sanitation have been implemented, and for the seventh goal, "clean energy at reasonable prices", 8 projects have been completed within the local development program (Electricity and Lighting), supplying and installing 140 lighting poles with their accessories, 3200 LED lights.

About the eighth and ninth goals, "decent work and economic growth" and "industry and innovation", a craft area was established in Tramseh in Qena on an area of 20 acres that includes about 450 workshops.

Concerning the eleventh goal, "Sustainable Cities & Communities", the report stated that about 2,000 housing units have been established within the social housing project. In addition, 20 projects within the security, fire, and traffic program, and 60 projects within the program to support local units' needs.

Regarding the thirteenth goal, "Climate Action", 43 projects within the Environment Improvement Program have been completed.
