Main / Media / News / Planning Ministry participates in the internal arbitration activities of the Youth Initiative for Development for 2022/2023 at Cairo University

23 July 2023

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by Dr. Mohamed Alaa, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and General Coordinator of the Initiative in the ministry, participated - virtually - in the internal arbitration activities of the Youth Initiative for Development for the academic year 2022/2023 at Cairo University, in preparation for the selection of development projects and policy papers that will compete at the national level.

During his participation, Dr. Mohamed Alaa reviewed the pillars and objectives of the Youth for Development Initiative, and the development it witnessed in its second edition, which is represented by the participation of a large number of universities, opening the door for the participation of private and private universities, and cooperation with some entities in the initiative tracks to ensure more quality and effective outputs.

Alaa referred to the arbitration criteria for policy papers and development projects and the importance of linking the production of the participating youth to the Egyptian state’s strategies and development plans, and to work to provide the participating teams with an opportunity to realize their projects on the ground, and to communicate their ideas to decision-makers.

Alaa praised the efforts of university coordinators and the participation of students in student competitions on their various tracks. This was either the track for development projects or policy papers.

Alaa stressed the importance of training and awareness programs being worked on during the initiative. This will enable young people to prepare policy papers and development projects that can be implemented on the ground.

Alaa pointed out that this year's initiative included students from African countries. This comes within the framework of African affiliation, which the Egyptian state affirms by strengthening cooperation and working with young people from different countries on the continent.

For his part, Dr. Khaled Barakat, coordinator of the initiative at Cairo University, reviewed the university's efforts in training and qualifying university students participating in the initiative. He provided all facilities for the participating teams.
