22 July 2023

Ambassador Hisham Badr, General Coordinator and Head of the Organizing Committee of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects met with Mrs. Fatou Haidara, Deputy Director General and Director of Global Partnerships and External Relations at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), to discuss ways of cooperation between the two parties to support projects related to the organization's field of work.

During the meeting, Ambassador Hisham Badr referred to the praise of international bodies and the United Nations for the success achieved by the national initiative in its first session, which ended with presenting solutions to environmental problems and climate change and the winning projects to the world at the CoP27 Climate Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, and the importance of the initiative at the national and international level.

Badr explained that the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects aims to implement green/smart projects by maximizing the use of climate solutions and information technology in line with the objectives of the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, and strengthening coordination and partnerships between stakeholders in all governorates to spread community awareness of the challenges of climate change.

The general coordinator of the initiative stressed the importance of the vital role played by the enterprise to network the winners with the initiative’s partners and the various investment and financing agencies, intending to expand these projects and provide them with technical and financial support, stressing the importance of spreading awareness of the concept of climate change in all governorates of Egypt.

Ambassador Hisham Badr indicated that the Arab League (Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation) welcomed the transfer and dissemination of the initiative in the Arab countries as an unprecedented model globally, as it provides solutions to environmental problems emanating from the governorates and villages of the Arab Republic of Egypt, stressing that the purpose of this initiative is to find real solutions on the ground.

Badr also reviewed examples of partnerships between many international organizations and several winning projects in the first round of the initiative to provide the necessary funding for them, including the project "Smart Warning System with Nanotechnology for Control and Early Detection of the Red Palm Weevil" in Ismailia Governorate in the category of non-profit community initiatives.

Ambassador Hisham Badr called on the various projects in the governorates to join in the initiative's second round. This will be closed for submission on the first day of September.

Badr referred to the cash prizes presented by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development to the winners. The first-place award for the first-place winning project is EGP 750,000, 500,000 for the second place, and 250,000 pounds for the third place.

For her part, Mrs. Fatou Haidara expressed her interest and keenness for the organization to cooperate with the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects. This is compatible with the organization's goals and vision in terms of providing support for projects related to the organization's field.
