H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development who also serves as the chairperson of The Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) leaves for New York to participate in the ministerial part of the annual meetings of The United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) which will be held from 17 to 20 July 2023.




It is scheduled that Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, will deliver Egypt's speech during the opening session of the ministerial section of the forum, to highlight Egypt's success in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program, for the first time, in preparing local voluntary audit reports for three governorates represented in Port Said, Beheira and Fayoum as a stage


This is within tireless national efforts to localize sustainable development and accelerate its seventeen goals.


The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is also organizing a side event in which the three local voluntary reports will be presented, in addition to reviewing the process of preparing them in a participatory manner, as well as presenting the results of those reports aimed at accelerating local and comprehensive development rates in those governorates


El-Said is participating in the side event that the mission intends to organize on July 18, 2023, to promote the World Urban Forum in coordination with both the United Nations Human Settlements Program and countries that have previously hosted previous sessions of the World Urban Forum, following the recommendation of the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations in New York.


Moreover, El-Said will take part in the plenary sessions of the forum that will discuss the goals of sustainable development, in addition to participating in many other events and side events, as well as holding a set of bilateral meetings with relevant senior UN officials and ministerial counterparts of the UN member states participating in the forum.


It is worth noting that the work of the current session of the Forum takes place from July 10 to 20, 2023, and focuses on the submission by several member states of their periodic reports for national voluntary review, as well as reviewing the implementation of the sustainable development goals to be dealt with in the Forum session for the year 2023, which includes the sixth goal on clean water and sanitation and the seventh goal is to provide affordable and clean energy.


As part of these goals, there are nine goals related to industry, innovation, and infrastructure. Eleven goals are related to sustainable cities and communities, and seventeen are about partnerships.


The forum's work program is divided into meetings and events, including meetings of the sub-ministerial high-level segment of the forum, from 10 to 14 July 2023.


Those during the period from 17 to 19 July 2023, as well as the high-level meeting of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations on 20 July 2023.
