14 July 2023

A Ministry of Planning and Economic Development delegation continued its field tours to follow up on meeting the "Green Village" initiative standards. This initiative aims to rehabilitate the villages of the national project for the development of the Egyptian countryside, "A Decent Life", to comply with international environmental standards.

The delegation visited the nominated villages at the Youssef Al-Siddiq Center in Fayoum Governorate, with representatives of the "E-consult" company for engineering and environmental consulting.

Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister of Planning for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, said that the field visits of the working team aim to follow up on green village standards.

Helmy pointed out that these standards include 3 main pillars: energy, water, and resources, including the expansion of solar energy use, methods of water management, modern irrigation systems, the use of organic fertilizers, and ease of access to basic services, especially for people of determination.

Helmy added that the "Decent Life" initiative at Youssef Al-Siddiq town includes about 340 development projects such as health services that include the establishment of 10 primary first aid points, and 28 family medicine units.

Moreover, 39 schools were established, replaced, expanded, and maintained to develop educational services. In addition, 8 government service complexes, 8 agricultural service complexes, 5 projects for paving and developing main roads, and 17 projects for internal roads.

The ministry delegation also visited the project to establish an ambulance unit in the village of Quta, with a completion rate of 100%, and the development of the family medicine center, with a completion rate of 80%, and the project to connect high-speed internet networks, with a completion rate of 90%, and the expansion of the sewage treatment plant that serves the village and neighboring villages, with a capacity of 10,000 m3/day.

The delegation also visited the Qarun family medicine unit with a completion rate of 100%, the youth center of Munshaat Qarun village with a completion rate of 100%, the Qarun post office with a completion rate of 100%, the project of establishing an integrated family medicine center with a completion rate of 60%, and the agricultural services complex in the village of Khaltah with a completion rate of 100%.

The ministry's delegation, which includes Ahmed Al-Shimi and Muhammad Sharif Al-Hali, coordinators of the "Decent Life" initiative at the Ministry of Planning, held a consultative session with the people of the village of Qarun, during which their views on the finished and ongoing "Decent Life" projects were identified in the village and a brief presentation on the goals and criteria of the Green Village initiative.

Then the ministry delegation visited the village of Tunis affiliated with the Youssef Al-Siddiq town, which is a candidate for obtaining the "Rationalization for Green Communities" certificate, and inspected the project to replace and renew the first aid point with a completion rate of 100%, and the sewage connection project with a completion rate of 40% for ejection and lift lines, and the expansion of the Wali Mizar Elementary School, with 11 classes, accommodating 330 students, and the post office construction project with a completion rate of 45%.

To identify the relative advantages of the villages, the ministry delegation visited the pottery education school in the village of Tunis, affiliated with the Community Development Association in the village of Qarun, which accommodates 30 students annually, as well as one of the pottery workshops, where there are about 35 workshops in the village, employing about 400 workers

It is noteworthy that the delegation of the Ministry of Planning visited, during the last period, 5 governorates (New Valley, Sohag, Sharkia, Damietta, Fayoum), within the framework of the "Green Village" initiative within the "Decent Life" project, in cooperation with the "e-consult" company specialized in Environmental consulting.
