EGP 4.6 Bn spent on 157 local development projects in Alexandria governorate during FY 21/2022: Planning Minister

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued the "Citizen Follow-up" report in Alexandria Governorate which includes an inventory of projects that have been fully completed in the main sectors, during the fiscal year (2022/21), according to the program and performance methodology and linking them to the relevant sustainable development goals (SDGs).
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, confirmed that the ministry attaches particular importance to activating community participation, transparency, and accountability, by moving from the “Citizen Investment Plan” to the “ Citizen Follow Up”, to spread awareness among citizens of the achievements made by the state, and to ensure subsequent follow up by citizens for the implemented projects, within the framework of the efforts exerted to localize the sustainable development goals in the governorates, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

These reports highlight the completion of 157 development projects in 6 sectors (local development, education, transportation, housing, irrigation, electricity) at a total investment cost of 4.6 EGP billion in Alexandria Governorate during the fiscal year (2021/2022).
Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, said that the implementation of the project to rehabilitate the Al-Fangari canal and the Karnak guide to provide irrigation water had been completed, and the civil works for the Al-Amriya Bank emergency lift station have been completed, in line with SDG 2 Zero Hunger.
He added that concerning SDG Goal 4: Quality Education, 36 projects have been implemented in the pre-university education sector, in addition to the replacement of existing facilities and expansion of 628 classrooms.
The report reviewed the relevant sustainable development goals, pointing out that for SDG Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, two projects for drinking water and sanitation have been implemented, and for SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy for All 10 projects have been completed within the local development program (electricity and lighting), supplying and installing 337 lighting poles with their accessories, 1008 LED searchlights.
About SDG 11: Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable, the report stated that 17 projects have been implemented to develop the port of Alexandria and Dekheila, expand the Kafouri bridge, construct a bridge at the intersection of the sea arm with the coastal road, in addition to the completion of 13 projects for paving and developing local roads which resulted in paving and improving roads with a length of 68 km, replacing and renewing the Corniche wall with a length of 16 km, raising the efficiency of the Masr station field.
Concerning SDG Goal 13: Climate Action, 28 projects have been completed within the environmental improvement program. 8 projects will be implemented in addition to the afforestation and beautification of neighborhood centers and purification of Lake Mariout along 33.5 kilometers.
About the national project for the development of the Egyptian countryside, "A Decent Life" in Alexandria Governorate, the report indicated that during the year (2022/21), the implementation of 173 chapters, 10 schools, 8 mobile network towers, the connection of the optical fiber network to two villages, the establishment of 2 police stations, and a compound were completed, Government services, connecting the natural gas network to 5 villages.
