Main / Media / News / National Initiative for Smart Green Projects General Co-ordinator، UN Women representative discuss aspects of cooperation

08 July 2023

Ambassador Hisham Badr, the general coordinator of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, met recently with Ms. Christine Arab, UN Women Egypt Country Representative, to discuss the current status of cooperation between the initiative and the organization, as well as other areas of potential cooperation.

This meeting was a result of the conference held by the initiative last month to establish a partnership for cooperation with the United Nations in Egypt and its affiliated organizations.

Ambassador Hisham Badr confirmed that the second phase of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects aims to encourage more categories to come up with innovative environmental solutions.

He further emphasized the special interest in encouraging more women to participate in climate action.

Badr explained that the initiative has allocated a category for women-related projects as part of the work to empower women and drive the green economy in Egypt.

He also highlighted the role played by the initiative in achieving more harmony and synergy among the various entities concerned with empowering women through the initiative's cooperation with the United Nations Women and the presence of the National Council for Women as one of the members of the organizing committee of the initiative.

Badr praised the technical support provided by the United Nations Women in Egypt for the winning projects in the women's category in the first round and discussed expanding the scope of this support to include the qualified projects in the same category.

He also discussed the means of support that the United Nations Women in Egypt can provide for the winning projects in the second round, whether by providing technical support or presenting the projects at various forums to facilitate partnerships for them.

Ambassador Hisham Badr also reviewed the national, regional, and international interest that the initiative has received, pointing out that at the end of that round, the winning projects will be represented at the COP28 climate conference, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates.

The winning projects will receive financial prizes provided by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, and will be linked with partner entities. This initiative is an unprecedented national and global opportunity to provide solutions to climate change.
