EGP 5.2 Bn spent on 312 local development projects in Assiut governorate during FY 21/2022: Planning Minister

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued the “Citizen Follow-up” report in Assiut Governorate, which includes an inventory of projects fully completed in the main sectors, during the fiscal year (2022/21), according to the "Programs and Performance” budget, and links them to the relevant UN SDGs.
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, confirmed that the ministry attaches special importance to activating community participation, transparency, and accountability, by moving from the "Citizen's Investment Plan" to the "Citizen's Follow-Up" report, to spread awareness among citizens of the state's achievements.
The "Citizen Follow-up" reports aim to localize sustainable development goals in the governorates, activate the State's General Planning Law No. 18 of 2022, and activate the subsequent follow-up of projects while enhancing community participation, transparency, and accountability.
El-Said indicated that the implementation of 312 development projects in 7 sectors (local development, education, housing, irrigation, electricity, youth, and sports, transportation) has been completed at a total investment cost of EGP 5.2 billion in Assiut Governorate during the fiscal year (2021/2022).
For his part, Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for Follow-up Affairs of Sustainable Development said that 6 projects have been completed in the water resources and irrigation sector including the replacement and renewal of covered drainage networks in the Abu Tig area, with an area of 1,030 feddans, in line with the 2nd UN SDGs (Goal 2: Zero Hunger).
Helmy added that concerning Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, 75 projects have been implemented in the pre-university education sector, in addition to establishing, replacing, and expanding 1,207 classrooms.
The report reviewed the relevant UN sustainable development goals, noting that UN SDG 6: Ensure access to water and sanitation for all, 6 sanitation and drinking water projects have been implemented, and sewage has been connected to 5 villages, with a total beneficiary of about 50,000 citizens.
About Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. The Assiut / Nagaa Hammadi line (ultra-voltage) with a length of 6 km has been implemented, and 17 projects within the local development program (electricity and lighting) have been completed, in addition to the supply and installation of 300 lighting poles, including 907 searchlights. LED, 28,000 lighting equipment.
About Goal 11: Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable," the report stated that about 4,400 housing units have been completed within the Social Housing and Misr Housing projects, and 40 projects within the Security, Fire and Traffic program.
Concerning the national project for the development of the Egyptian countryside, "A Decent Life" in Assiut Governorate, the report indicated that during the year (2022/21), the implementation of 2 social units, 4 agricultural service complexes, 8 health units, maintenance of 107 schools, 3 drinking water stations, and rehabilitation was completed. And lining 11 canals, connecting the optical fiber network to about 15 villages, and natural gas to about 18 villages.
