Planning Ministry's Delegation Visits Nominated Villages for the “Green Village” Initiative in Damietta

A delegation from the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development paid a field visit to inspect the availability of the criteria of the “Green Village” initiative, part of the national project for rural development in Egypt “Decent Life,” in Kafr Saad in Damietta governorate, in cooperation with E-Consult. The initiative aims to equip the villages of the “Decent Life” initiative to meet global environmental standards.
Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for the Follow-up of the Sustainable Development Plan Dr. Jamil Helmy mentioned that the delegation is carrying on a series of field trips to several governorates, where the delegation has already visited the New Valley, Sohaj, Sharqiya, and Damietta governorates to ensure the presence of the standards of the “Green Village” specified by the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), as part of the measures taken to prepare candidate villages to obtain the “Rationalization for Green Communities” certificate, indicating the continuous coordination and cooperation with the different governorates regarding that matter.
Furthermore, Helmy added that there are 28 “Decent Life” projects around Kafr Saad villages. These projects include 500 developmental projects aimed at improving citizens' quality of life in rural areas. A total of 28 sewer service projects have been undertaken in the sanitation and potable water sector. This includes constructing and expanding 6 treatment plants and raising 4 potable water stations' capacity. While the human development sector witnessed the construction and development of 26 youth centers, the construction, development, and maintenance of 75 schools, the building and raising of the capacity of 13 ambulance points, and 20 family medical units, and the construction of 12 government service complexes, 12 agricultural service complexes, and 33 mobile network towers.
The Ministry's delegation visited Kafr Saad Al-Balad village, affiliated with the Kafr Saad Center, where it inspected the project to develop and raise the efficiency of the social unit, the ambulance point, and the establishment of the fire station, with a completion rate of 100%, and the Kafr Saad elementary joint school, which includes 12 classrooms and 8 kindergarten classes, and maintenance work on the preparatory school for boys, with a completion rate of 100%, the urban market and the car park, with a completion rate of 100%, and the replacement and renovation of the youth center (which includes 2 courts), with a completion rate of 100%.
In addition, the delegation visited the project of rehabilitating and lining the new Maqtaa Saad canal with a length of 12.7 km, with a completion rate of 50%, the technology center (Citizens Services Complex), which includes services (real estate registration, post office, supply office, local unit) with a completion rate of 100%, a treatment plant, with a capacity of 4,000 m3/day, and completion rate of 85%, and the veterinary services complex, which includes a veterinary unit, an agricultural association, and an agricultural extension center, with a 100% completion rate.
The ministry’s delegation, which includes Ahmed Al-Shimi and Muhammad Sharif Al-Hali, coordinators of the “Decent Life” initiative, held a consultative session with the people of Kafr Saad Al-Balad village, which addressed the goals of the green village and the importance of integrating the environmental dimension into the presidential initiative, during which the people expressed their happiness with the projects being implemented in their village, pointing out that these projects, after their full execution, will contribute significantly to improving the level of services provided to them. In addition, they will reduce the cost of commuting to the center to obtain services.
Finally, the delegation visited the "second inspection" village, where it inspected the youth center, the technology center, the joint preparatory school, the agricultural services complex, the parking lot, and the market, with a completion rate of 100%, the family medicine center with a completion rate of 85%, and the residential buildings with 6 buildings that include 48 housing units for vulnerable families and a project to develop a unit with a completion rate of 100%, and the expansion of a treatment plant to increase energy by about 4 thousand m3 / day, to serve the village and neighboring villages, with a completion rate of 60%, and he lifting station, and the lining and rehabilitation of the Umm Amer canal with a length of 4.5 km, with a completion rate of 100%.
