The National Initiative for Green Smart Projects (NIGSP) held an awareness seminar in cooperation with the Suez Governorate attended by participants from Suez, Ismailia, and Port Said. The Seminar comes as part of the continued effort of NIGSP to educate participants about the initiative’s objectives, categories, and criteria for project participation in the second round, which is currently available for submission until the end of July 2023 through the initiative’s website www.sgg.eg.

 

Attended the session, Executive manager of NIGSP Nermine Sadek, Representative of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Mohamed Talaat, Representative of the Ministry of Environment Inam Mohamed, and Representative of the National Council for Women Fawzeya Abdullah. 

 

 

During the session, Executive manager of NIGSP Nermine Sadek presented the history initiative since its inception under the patronage of the President and by a decree by the Prime Minister. She also indicated that the main objective of NIGSP is to find innovative solutions based on the reality in each governorate in order to solve environmental problems and face climate change. Then, she pointed out that despite being one of the most affected countries by climate change and its repercussions, Egypt is one of the least countries to contribute to carbon emissions. 


Furthermore, the Executive Manager of NIGSP pointed out to the 6 categories of the initiative, the criteria to evaluate the participating projects, and the conditions that need to be present in all applications. In addition, she stressed that the Suez governorate is a key partner of the initiative’s success, an ambassador to extrapolate its entrepreneurial experience to others, and raise awareness amongst citizens regarding climate change. She also announced that for the first time, school and university students have the chance to participate in the initiative and that the initiative offers online workshops on its various social media platform accounts. Finally, she referred to the first round’s winning project from Ismailia falling under the non-profit category, which is using nanotechnology for the early detection of red palm weevils.  under the non-profit category. 


On the other hand, Representative of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Mohamed Talaat covered the technological component within the initiative, mentioned the criteria for the availability of the component within the projects participating in the initiative, and presented a number of examples of smart projects.

 

While, Representative of the Ministry of Environment Dr. Inam Mohamed, explained the green component and the criteria for its availability in projects, and explained that there are a number of economic dimensions of green projects in terms of providing job opportunities, opening new markets and fields, in addition to the availability of new financing sources and mechanisms, enhancing competitive capabilities, and attracting direct foreign investment.

 

Lastly, Representative of the National Council for Women Fawzeya Abdullah reviewed the winning projects in the women's category during the first round of the initiative, pointed to the target groups in that category and how to apply for them, and stressed that the project in that category must empower women and take into account sustainability
