The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued the “Citizen Follow-up” report in Beni Suef Governorate, which includes an inventory of projects fully completed in the main sectors, during the fiscal year (2021/2022), according to the program and performance budget and the relevant SDGs.

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, asserted that the ministry attaches special importance to activating community participation, transparency, and accountability, by moving from the “Citizen Investment Plan” to the “Citizen Follow-up” report, to spread awareness among citizens of the achievements made by the state, and to ensure subsequent follow-up by citizens for the implemented projects, within the framework of the efforts exerted to localize the sustainable development goals in the governorates, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030.

 

El-Said explained that the "Citizen Follow-up" reports aim to localize sustainable development goals in the governorates, activate the state's general planning Law No. 18 of 2022, and activate the subsequent follow-up of projects while enhancing community participation, transparency, and accountability.

 

El-Said indicated that the “Citizen Follow-up” report in Beni Suef Governorate during the fiscal year (2022/21) shows that 153 development projects have been completed in 7 sectors (education, local development, irrigation, housing, electricity, transportation, health) at a cost total investment of EGP 1.7 billion.

 

Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, said that 11 projects have been completed to improve agricultural productivity and irrigation, replace and renew covered drainage networks in the first West Tangerine area, in addition to completing the process of developing and dredging the Tangerine Sea, in line with Goal 2: Zero Hunger.

 

Helmy added that concerning the third goal, "promoting health and well-being," the Ahnasia Central Hospital was established, with 79 inpatient beds, 9 intensive care beds, and 8 premature beds.

The report reviewed the relevant UN sustainable development goals (SDGs), noting that the fourth goal, Goal 4: Quality education indicated that 86 projects in the pre-university education sector had been completed, which resulted in the establishment, replacement, and expansion of 1089 classrooms.

Regarding GOAL 7: Affordable and clean energy, the 220 kV transformer station of Kom al-Ahmar was implemented, the line (Bani Suef / West Fayoum) was completed to connect the Kom al-Ahmar transformer station to the unified electrical network, and 159 lighting poles were supplied and installed, including 36,000 lighting equipment, as well as the installation of 7,200 LED searchlights.

Concerning Goal 11: Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable, the report stated that paving and development of roads with a length of 45 km, paving streets of 21.5 km long, and the removal of navigational bottlenecks on the Bani Mazar / Al Saf road, and concerning the twelfth goal, "Responsible consumption and production" 10.9 km long canals have been rehabilitated and lined.

Regarding the national project for the development of the Egyptian countryside, "a decent life" in Beni Suef Governorate, the report indicated that during the year (2022/21), the implementation of 2 social units, 3 agricultural service complexes, 3 ambulance units, 10 health units, 780 classrooms was completed.
