25 June 2023

The ‘National Initiative for Smart Green Projects’ announced the approval of the General Secretariat of the Arab League (Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation) to include the initiative in the agenda items of the Arab Committee to follow up on the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals in the Arab region.

Ambassador Hisham Badr, General Coordinator of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, said that the General Secretariat of the Arab League (Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation) welcomed the inclusion of the initiative in the agenda items of the Arab Committee to follow up on the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals in the Arab region, which came within the framework of the interests of the Arab League.

Ambassador Hisham Badr referred to the most important results of the meeting held by the initiative at the headquarters of the Arab League, in the presence of representatives of Arab countries, headed by Minister Plenipotentiary Nada Al-Ajizi, Director of the Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation at the Arab League, to present the initiative as a successful model to be followed by Arab countries.

It was also noted that investors and financial institutions were invited to study and fund the winning projects to ensure their continuity in providing smart and practical solutions to address the risks of climate change.

Badr stressed that such interest in the outputs of the initiative from the League of Arab States indicates the success of the initiative in achieving its goals, explaining that the initiative in its second session seeks to maximize the benefit from the results of the first session to present many new solutions to climate change problems, which will participate in the COP28 climate conference in the UAE.

Moreover, Badr also affirmed the initiative's keenness to transfer its experience to the Arab countries, as it is an unprecedented global initiative implemented in all governorates of Egypt with the participation of several different groups, indicating that the industry has received international praise from international institutions.

He explained that one of the most important gains of the initiative is the transition from local to national and then to the world by presenting it to 100 million Egyptians, in addition to creating a database of intelligent green projects that participated in the first round of the initiative and its ability to link them with financiers and investors.

Notably, the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects participated this June in the Sustainability and Government Business Forum organized by the Arab League in Cairo, with the participation of the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ambassador Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

To register projects in the second round of the initiative through the official website of the initiative until the end of next July WWW.SGG.EG
