25 June 2023

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, concluded the design thinking training camp entitled "From Challenge to Idea", which lasted for five consecutive days.

Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), explained that this camp comes as the first activity of the Egypt Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation of NIGSD, which represents an integrated center to support entrepreneurship, innovation and distinguished practices of sustainable and innovative entrepreneurship in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa.

Sherif added that the objectives of the training camp are to describe the systematic process of identifying and solving problems, creating a successful and fruitful framework according to design thinking methodologies, defining the tools that can be used at each stage according to the data of each project, as well as identifying problems in a scientific way based on the user, developing a vision for possible solutions, implementing prototypes of these solutions, testing them, reaching final answers, and designing a model for a successful business plan that suits the user's needs and can compete in the market.

For her part, Dr. Heba Medhat Zaki, Director of the Egypt Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, confirmed that the center seeks to empower Egyptian youth as entrepreneurs and create an entrepreneurial mindset that can generate innovative ideas that help achieve the goals of Egypt's Vision 2030, which intersect with the UN goals of sustainable development. The center also aims to coordinate and support entrepreneurship actors in Egypt. This is in a way that improves the services needed for entrepreneurs and encourages start-ups to start their businesses.

The training camp came to generate the following ideas: Design thinking from challenge to idea under the umbrella of the Sustainable Innovation Lab, one of the Centre's programs, which in its first session targets graduates of the Be an Ambassador program from the second batch.

During the week, the camp seeks to help young graduates of the program develop their ideas and transform them into operating projects on the Egyptian market.
