Egypt's 2021/2022 plan allocates EGP 74 billion to the agricultural sector: Planning Minister

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, discussed today the investment plan for the year 2021/2022 in the plenary session of the Senate.
El-Said indicated that the fourth chapter of the plan deals with sectorial development and the plan’s objectives in the year 2022/2022 for each sector.
El-Said explained that the targets in the agricultural sector include increasing the agricultural gross domestic product at current and constant prices with a growth rate of more than 9% and 3.6%, respectively, in addition to directing total investments of about EGP 73.8 billion to the sector, and developing agricultural exports by 20%.
El-Said added that the most important targeted agricultural development programs and projects are the two horizontal and vertical expansion programs, the food security program, the financial and marketing support programs for farmers, the fish farming program, and the development of the agricultural export program.
El-Said added that the most important targeted agricultural development programs and projects include the project of rehabilitation and lining of canals that targets canals with total lengths of about 20 thousand km in various governorates, for EGP 68.18 billion, to achieve water savings of about 5 billion cubic meters, and it is planned to end by the end of the fiscal year 2023/2024.
El-Said continued talking about the targeted agricultural development projects, referring to the modern irrigation system project, which aims to rationalize the use of irrigation water, raise the efficiency of field irrigation systems, and increase agricultural productivity from 10% to 20%.
El-Said also referred to the targets concerning the manufacturing sector, as they include an increase in industrial production (non-oil) with a growth rate of 9.9% at current prices and 2.1% at constant prices.
The transformation industry targets also include rehabilitating some public business sector companies in the fields of spinning, weaving, cotton ginning, aluminum, steel, and fertilizers, and completing the construction of 6 industrial complexes in Assiut, Qena, Aswan, Beheira, and Fayoum governorates.
