Head of the Technical Committee for the Egyptian Governorates Competitiveness Index reviews its goals

Dr. Mona Al-Garf, Head of the Technical Committee for the Egyptian Governorates Competitiveness Index, reviewed the goals of preparing the index and its importance, during the conference to launch the Governorates Competitiveness Index, which was inaugurated today by H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development; and in the presence of Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development.
During a session entitled "Provincial Competitiveness Index: An Overview and the Most Important Results," Dr. Mona Al-Garf gave a presentation that included several axes represented in the legislative and institutional framework governing the project, the principles governing the project, the objectives of preparing the index and its importance.
The presentation also included the stages of work on the indicator, which are the two stages of designing the indicator, the stage of implementation and calculating the indicator, the results of the indicator, comparing the pillars of the indicator in some governorates to the highest degree, in addition to reviewing the future steps of the indicator.
On the objectives of preparing the index and its importance, Al-Garf explained that at the macroeconomic level, the index works to study the economic and social development gaps between the governorates, assisting the government in general, and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development in particular in effective planning and rational management of all state resources, assisting the government in implementing the objectives of the national strategy for sustainable, comprehensive/inclusive, and balanced development.
Al-Garf pointed out the importance of the indicator at the governorate level, as it monitors the strengths and weaknesses of each governorate, and then the extent of the governorate's readiness to achieve sustainable growth and ensure an adequate standard of living for the citizen.
