Egypt increases private sector minimum wage to EGP 3000 a month

Egypt’s National Wages Council (NWC) has set the minimum wage for private sector workers at EGP 3000 (97.01) per month, up from the previous EGP 2,700, starting in July 2023.
The National Wages Council (NWC) has approved increasing the minimum monthly wage of private sector employees from EGP 2,700 to EGP 3000 as of July 2023.
The approval came at the NWC’s Monday meeting chaired by H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and other officials
The meeting witnessed the presence of the Minister of Labor, Dr. Hassan Shehata, the Head of the National Council for Women (NCW) Dr. Maya Morsi, Dr. Saleh El-Sheikh, Head of the Central Agency for Organization and Administration (CAOA), and the Head of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMS), Major General Khairat Barakat.
During the meeting, Dr. Hala El-Said announced that today's meeting was based on NWC's agreement to hold a meeting at the end of the first half of the year. This meeting discussed economic conditions and reviewed the private sector's minimum wage.
El-Said asserted that the NWC’s decision to raise the minimum wage to EGP 3,000 is commensurate with the council’s policy of achieving a balance between workers and business owners and in line with current economic changes and high inflation rates.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Labor, Dr. Hassan Shehata affirmed that this substantial increase in the minimum wage comes within the framework of the Egyptian state’s policies for private sector workers that aim to provide them with a decent life.
He also stressed that while it seeks to preserve the rights of workers, it is also keen on the stability of all establishments, increasing production, supporting all companies that need support, and standing by the rights of workers and educating them about their duties in light of the culture of the "New Republic", which adopts the language of social dialogue as its title in facing all the challenges that the whole world is facing.
For her part, the Coordinator of the National Council for Wages Dr. Hanan Nazeer reviewed a number of the Council's results of the preliminary meetings held with representatives of workers and employers' unions regarding the files that were discussed in the Council's appointment today, along with the discussion of a proposal to establish a committee within the Council's committees to organize the work of the sectoral skills council.
