EGP 8.3 bn spent on 340 local development projects in Dakahlia Governorate during FY 21/2022: Minister of Planning

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued a "harvest" report entitled (Citizen Follow-up), which includes a tally, to sum up, the projects of the (Citizen Investment Plan) that have been fully completed in the main sectors, in Dakahlia Governorate, during FY (21/2022), according to the “Programs and Performance” budget.
The report is part of the project and performance methodology and relates to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development said that the report comes within the framework of following up the “Citizen Investment Plan” issued annually by the ministry, which was incorporated into the United Nations (UN) platform for initiatives to accelerate the realization of the SDGs.
She also stressed the importance of activating civil participation, transparency, accountability, and moving toward “Citizen Follow-up” reports spreading awareness regarding the accomplishments of the state among the citizens, which ensures the citizens’ follow-up of executed projects enforcing the state’s public planning law as part of the efforts deployed by the government to achieve the SDGs in all governorates, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
Furthermore, El-Said clarified that 340 development projects have been completed, during FY 2021/22, in 7 sectors, costing EGP 8.3 billion. The 7 industries targeted by developmental projects executed in Daqahliya include education, health, transportation, electricity, irrigation, housing, and local development.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for follow-up affairs of the sustainable development plan, Dr. Jamil Helmy stated that the two projects for the improvement of agricultural productivity have been fully implemented; the first is the replacement and renewal of the agricultural drainage in Kafr Salem and network, while the second follows SDGs Goal 2: Zero Hunger.
He also indicated that following the 3rd SDG Good Health and Well-being the construction work at the New Public Mansoura Hospital has been completed with a capacity of 132 beds and 21 intensive care unit beds.
The report presented the related UN SDGs, pointing out the execution of 72 pre-university education projects, per the fourth SDG “Quality Education,” resulting in the replacement and renewal of 1130 classrooms. As for SDG 6: Ensure access to water and sanitation, all 10 sanitation and potable water projects have been completed.
The report also highlighted that 35,000 citizens benefit from sanitation lift stations. Around 60,000 citizens benefit from water treatment plants, and around 140 thousand citizens derive from overhead water tank projects.
Moreover, the report explained that 26 local development projects (electricity and lighting) have been carried out towards the achievement of the 7th SDG, “Affordable and Clean Energy,” resulting in the installation of 300 lighting poles, in addition to the construction of Qonajil and New Mansoura electrical substations.
Regarding the realization of the 11th SDG “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” the report stated that 14,000 housing units have been executed, and the construction and development of 8 local units and government service complexes, along with 81 local road paving and development projects resulting in paving 83 Km long roads, renovating 6 bridges, raising the efficiency of the Mansoura Ring Road.
Additionally, the government executed the lining of 30 Km long canals (el-Meqdam, Um Yassin, Abu El-Qaramit, Mubarak, El-Besrat, El-Hawayer, and El-Youssefeya), along with the execution of 39 local development projects resulting in the completion of the construction of two recycling factories in Manzala and Simbelawin, and supplying 1315 cleaning equipment aiming to realize the 12th SDG “Responsible Consumption and Production.”
Finally, Helmy addressed the national initiative to develop Egypt’s rural areas “Decent Life” in Daqahliya, stating that during FY 20221/22, six agricultural service complexes, 13 healthcare units, 4 ambulance units, 4 sewage treatment plants, 4 potable water stations have been executed, in addition to connecting 17 villages with fiber-optic networks, extending gas pipes to 14 villages. Lastly, he indicated that by FY 2022/23, all Decent Life projects targeting Daqahliya would be completed.
