The Minister of Planning and Economic Development Dr. Hala El-Said met recently with the Omani Minister of Economy Dr. Said Mohammed Al-Saqri on the sidelines of her participation in the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting (DMM) in India that took place from 11 to 13 June.
El-Said said that the meeting aimed to explore possible technical cooperation between the two nations and Egypt's support for the Sultanate of Oman in the macroeconomic and development fields.
Furthermore, El-Said stressed the strong relationship between the two sister countries, highlighting Egypt’s eagerness to enhance cooperation bonds and to extrapolate the experience the Sultanate might need in any field.
El-Said also suggested that Oman join the Friends of Greening National Investment Initiative. Likewise, she invited the Minister of Economy to attend the launch of the Government Competitiveness Indicator. This is set to launch soon.
Additionally, the two sides examined a proposal for a memorandum of understanding to indicate the possible fields of cooperation; as the Omani side requested Egypt’s support in many fields that incorporated Egypt’s experience in the field of development planning, preparing the input-output tabled in collaboration with the Institute of National Planning, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), and the National Accounts Unit in the ministry.
The required support encompasses the assistance of the ministry’s Macroeconomics Unit to prepare monitoring, evaluation, and prediction studies related to macroeconomics. As well as using Egypt's experience in renewable energy and the exchange of knowledge about regional, national, and structural reform. This would be beneficial to utilize Egypt's experience in new energy.
