The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announces the release of Egypt's GDP data
12 June 2023
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the ministry had updated its annual release of the country's GDP data, as a continuous time series extending up to 1981/1982 was issued for GDP data, in addition to the values of output divided into the various elements of expenditure that include private and government spending.
El-Said explained that this series of data at constant prices is characterized by the fact that it was prepared according to one base year, 2021/2022, to facilitate researchers’ access to a long and consistent series of real GDP.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, confirmed that this issuance comes as a result of the efforts of the Ministry of Planning to improve the quality and availability of national accounts, which began about four years ago. The result was a re-estimation of output based on all available data, especially the economic census of Egypt for 2017-2018.
The availability and dissemination of data help researchers, decision-makers, and the private sector to monitor and analyze fundamental developments in the gross domestic product in Egypt in a more consistent manner, which contributes to monitoring a more realistic and objective picture of the current situation and developments in the Egyptian economy, in a style based on recent and accurate data and statistics and according to international standards.
