12 June 2023
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, participated today in a session entitled (Multilateralism - collective actions for accelerating progress towards the SDGs) which took place on the sidelines of her participation at the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting (DMM) in India.
El-Said stated that since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, needs and challenges have emerged that require continuous global efforts to accelerate progress in the 2030 Agenda and its sustainable development goals, following up that at the national level, countries have put in place the necessary frameworks and created the enabling environment to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
El-Said added that despite the huge strides in achieving sustainable development at various levels, the world was and still is facing many social, health, and environmental crises and challenges, as well as peace and security, which impede the development gains that have been made, especially in developing countries, which have been greatly affected by the different challenges.
She stressed the importance of increasing international cooperation to urgently find long-term solutions, due to the urgent need for a new era and a new approach to international partnerships for sustainable development, following up that the 2023 SDGs Summit, which will be held next September, will represent the middle of the road to implement the 2030 Agenda.
El-Said explained that the G20 Action Plan 2023 on accelerating progress in achieving sustainable development goals provides a structure to support the creation of an enabling environment to advance the implementation of the SDGs globally, specifically in developing countries, by offering several means of implementation including access to finance, technology transfer, and capacity building.
El-Said added that the high-level principles of the action plan are largely compatible with Egypt's Vision 2030 in its governing principles. These principles are based on the fact that the human being is the focus of development, justice, accessibility, adaptation, resilience, and sustainability.
She further explained that Egypt's Vision 2030 focuses on many potentials. These include providing financing, producing and making data available, promoting digital transformation, and achieving technological progress and innovation.
El-Said stressed that the Egyptian government pays great attention to the localization of sustainable development goals at the governorate level, based on its belief that sustainable development will not be achieved without relying on a bottom-up approach, taking into account geographical disparities and ensuring balanced and equitable regional development to ensure the 'Leave no one behind' (LNOB) principle.
El-Said pointed out the need to work collectively to enhance international coordination and partnerships, as the relevant stakeholders seek to achieve a common vision and goals, agree on priorities and ways to confront and address international challenges, as well as reach tangible results, to ensure effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
