Main / Media / News / Shifting towards a green economy is a “Priority”: Planning Minister

30 May 2021

Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the 21/2022 plan is distinguished by its approach with great attention to the environment and sustainable development sector by addressing the issue of the transition to a green economy with a focus on environmental improvement initiatives.El-Said added that the state is keen to target the doubling of the percentage of green public investments from 15% in 20/2021 to 30% in the 21/2022 plan, to 50% by the end of 20/2425, and setting a priority in financing green initiatives and projects. This is within the framework of the government's vision and orientations for a green recovery, and for Egypt to have the lead in the Middle East region in terms of greening the state's plan.
This came during her attendance at the Senate plenary session today headed by Counselor Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek, President of the Senate, and in the presence of the Senate members.

On the development of the tourism sector with the 21/2022 plan, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development explained that this is done through attention to stimulating domestic tourism and green tourism, and commitment to implementing health and preventive safety measures.
El-Said added that the tourism sector is developed through self-reliance through achieving self-sufficiency in food commodities, livestock and fish development projects, localizing high-tech industries and added value, deepening the local component, and allying with international companies to develop the national industry and benefit from the World Trade Organization.El-Said pointed to the importance of improving the state's capabilities in the field of risk and crisis management by establishing departments specialized in risk management, integrating them into the organizational structures of the government apparatus, and establishing funds to counter the financial consequences of crises and pushing agencies and companies to adopt the same approach.Dr. Hala El-Said also asserted that the recent trends dealt with in the plan reflect the peculiarity of this year's plan to address the structural reforms program, which represents the second phase of the economic and social reform program, the Egyptian rural development program, and the Egyptian family development plan that aims to improve the characteristics of the population and reduce population growth rates.
