Egypt directs EGP 29.4 Bn public investment to Port Said Governorate in 22/23 FY plan: Planning Minister

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development presented, in a report, the features of the Port Said Citizen Investment Plan for 2022/23, aiming to raise awareness about the directives and priorities of the sustainable development plan 2022/23 and its role in achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030.
The Minister of Planning and Economic Development Dr. Hala El-Said confirmed that achieving balanced regional development is one of the axes that Egypt’s Vision 2030 is based on, as the previous years have been witnessing intense localization efforts for sustainable development goals (SDGs) in all governorates, maximizing the relative edge of each governorate, and placing an indicator to identify the comparative and competitive edge of each governorate. She mentioned that the plan employs a participatory approach to formulating, executing, and following up on local development projects.
El-Said added that all development plans adopted by the government aim at the improvement of citizens' quality of life and that this could only be achieved with effective citizen participation in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030. Then, she pointed out that the Ministry of Planning has already taken the necessary steps to enhance transparency and accountability. She stressed the importance of citizens' participation in planning and follow-up.
Regarding the Port Said Citizen Investment Plan, El-Said clarified that the number of development projects reached 178 with public investments amounting to EGP 29.4 billion for the 2022/23 plan. This is a 64.2% increase from the previous year.
Concerning the sectoral division of the public investments included in the Port Said 2022/23 plan, the report indicated that EGP 19.8 billion were directed toward the Suez Canal with 67.3% of the total investments, followed by EGP 5.6 billion directed toward water and irrigation with 19%, while the housing sector received EGP 1.3 billion with 5%, the higher education and scientific research sector received EGP 940 million with 3%, the health sector received EGP 475.7 million with 2%, and other sectors received EGP 1.3 billion reflected in 3.7% of the total investments.
Finally, the report stated that the main development targets of the housing sector in Port Said governorate, in the 22/2023 plan, direct about EGP 851 million for potable water and sanitation services. Health is the aim of 12 development projects. The main development objectives are to establish and develop 8 hospitals in the governorate.
