Egypt directs EGP 6.9 Bn public investment to Beheira Governorate in 22/23 FY plan: Planning Minister

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development showcased in a report the details of the Beheira Citizen Investment Plan for 2022/23, within the framework of the continuous announcements of the investment plans of the different governorates for the fourth consecutive year.
The aforementioned announcement aims to raise awareness among citizens about the priorities, and directives of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year 2022/23. It also aims to highlight its role in Egypt's Vision 2030.
The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Hala El-Said, asserted that civic participation is the main guarantee to locally root the sustainable development goals (SDGs), to mend the development gap between the different governorates, under Egypt Vision 2030, and the 17th global SDG, “Partnerships for the goals.”
Furthermore, El-Said added that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is keen to involve citizens in all the stages of the development process; starting with planning, then monitoring and evaluation. In addition, the ministry is working hard to create the necessary environment to support such a partnership. This is done by providing citizens with detailed data related to sustainable development plans. It also issues routine follow-up reports and suggests initiatives and priority projects within the framework of a comprehensive and integrated participatory approach, following the Leave no one behind (LNOB) principle.
Regarding the Beheira Citizen Investment Plan, El-Said clarified that the public investments directed to the Beheira governorate for the year 2022/23 reached EGP 6.9 billion with a 13.9% growth rate compared to the previous year, to execute 370 developmental projects, in contrast to the projects executed under the “Decent Life” initiative aiming to improve Egyptian rural areas.
Concerning the sectoral division of public investments directed towards Beheira governorate in the 2022/23 plan, the report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development indicated the direction of EGP 2.5 billion to the transportation sector with 37% of the total investments, followed by EGP 1.2 billion toward the local development sector with 18% of the total investments, while EGP 5892.8 million toward the housing sector with a 9% rate of the total investment, then the pre-university sector received EGP 400.7 million with 6% of the total investments, while the water resources and irrigation investments reached EGP 390.5 million with 5% of the total investments, and investments in other sectors reached EGP 1.7 billion with 25% of the total investments.
Finally, the report clarified that 237 villages are targeted by the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative, with 2.9 million beneficiaries. It also indicated that the most critical development projects executed, in Beheira, through the industry to achieve the SDGs are represented in the construction of 40 residential buildings, 18 social units, 43 agricultural service complexes, 56 health units, 2622 classes, 118 schools, 8 family development centers, 17 potable water stations, 245 sanitation projects, 23 water distillation stations, 261 mobile network towers and the connection of a fiberoptic network, 168 youth centers, 42 government service complexes, 67 post offices, 26 police stations, preparing and lining 170 Km long canals, paving 515 Km long roads, building 18 markets, 7 public transportation hubs, 53 irrigation bridges, and 235 electricity projects.
