Main / Media / News / National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, FEI Launch Their Partnership Across Egypt’s Governorates

19 May 2023

Ambassador Hisham Badr, General Coordinator of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects participated in the introductory session organized by the labor affairs unit of the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI), addressing the second round of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects in the presence of El Sayed Torky, senior adviser – Head of the Corporate Social Responsibility Unit—Federation of Egyptian Industries.

Amb. Hisham Badr explained that the initiative, executed all over Egypt, is innovative in the fields of sustainable development, technology, addressing the environmental dimension, and climate change.

Badr clarified that the initiative aims to demonstrate the significance of confronting climate change and the environmental dimension within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by including all governorates and reaching out to all segments of society. Then he mentioned that the initiative also aims to raise awareness about climate change obstacles and women's empowerment in the climate change and environment fields.

He added that producing Egyptian solutions for climate change challenges that can support adaptation to and elevation of its effects is key to the initiative. This was manifested in front of the world at COP-27.

Badr explained that the launch of the initiative’s second round resulted from its success in achieving its goals. It also attracted numerous green projects in its first round.

Furthermore, Amb. Hisham Badr thanked El Sayed Torky and Dr. Khaled Abdel Azim for their efforts and cooperation in raising awareness about the National Initiative for Green Smart Projects.

Badr highlighted the great turnout of projects and participating companies as the audience showed great interest in participating in their projects in the second round of the initiative and in learning about the innovative ideas presented by the participants in the first round of the initiative.

Torky praised the cooperation between the Federation for Egyptian Industry and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development. He also praised the National Initiative for Green Smart Projects in particular.

He further added that this cooperation came in the form of signing an agreement to establish the Egyptian Business Council during the events of COP-27 with the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Matbouly, along with the signing of a letter of intent between the ministry, the federation, and Independent Business Owners Association International regarding Egyptian youth capacity building and training them on green jobs, which in return will have a direct effect on consolidating the cooperation and coordination between the federation and the National Initiative for Green Smart Projects’ second round headed by Amb. Hisham Badr.

Meanwhile, Dr. Khaled Abdel Azim asserted that the initiative is based on on-ground execution and application, emphasizing the importance of dealing with the envious dimension and climate change by fostering projects aiming to achieve the SDGs, linking them with financing entities, and attracting local and international investments.

Abdel Azim indicated that the initiative aims to maximize the use of communication and information technology within the state’s digital transformation plan, reaching all segments of society, socially and geographically, and raising awareness about climate change challenges and modern technology capabilities.

It is imperative to note that applications for the second round of the National Initiative for Green Smart Projects have been accepted since last April. This is done through the initiative’s website: http://www.sgg.eg.
