18 May 2023
Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, announced that the “Leadership for Government Excellence” training program, which is implemented by NIGSD in partnership with the American University in Cairo (AUC) and King's College London, won the Silver Award for Excellence in Practice 2023 in the “Talent Development” category from EFMD International.
Dr. Sherifa Sherif stressed that investing in the human element is one of the most critical priorities of the Egyptian state. This is because it is the basis of construction and development.
She further explained that human resources development has become a cornerstone for comprehensive future development. This is especially since the human element has demonstrated that it is the most crucial element in every development plan in any country.
Sherif added that there is a strong interest in developing the skills of workers in the country's administrative apparatus to benefit from them in many significant areas. This is done through training, courses, and grants.
Sherif referred to NIGSD's keenness to establish partnerships with the oldest educational and training institutions at the regional and international levels. This is to provide the highest quality training services, capacity building, education, research, and consulting, especially in governance and sustainable development.
Sherif explained that the "Leadership for Government Excellence" training program was implemented within the framework of the tripartite partnership signed in 2019 between the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, and two of the most prestigious universities, AUC and King's College London.
The program aims to qualify future leaders and prepare for the transition to new administrative capital with an innovative idea in line with the digital transformation system.
Sherif added that the program includes training over 3 months, the first two months at the American University in Cairo, followed by one month at Kings College in London, where the participants, on a personal level, increase self-awareness of their leadership capabilities, master change management and government transformation, and improve communication skills.
On the organizational level, projects that can be implemented on the ground are developed and created through the program.
