Egypt Gov't directs EGP 3.9 billion public investment to New Valley Governorate for FY 22/23: Minister of Planning

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development reviewed, in a report issued by it, the Citizen's Investment Plan for the (El-Wadi El Gedid) New Valley Governorate for the fiscal year 2023/22.
The aforementioned review came within the framework of continuing to announce the Citizen's Investment Plan in all governorates of Egypt for the fourth year in a row. This was to educate citizens about the directions and priorities of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year (22). /2023), and its role in achieving "Egypt's Vision 2030".
In this context, H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, confirmed that the launch of the Citizens Investment Plan reflects the state’s keenness to involve citizens in developing planning and follow-up systems.
It also aims to provide comprehensive development that addresses development gaps between governorates. Besides localizing SDGs, it also aims to establish SDG 17 partnerships.
El-Said added that all development plans adopted by the state aim to improve citizens' quality of life and that this will not be achieved without active community participation. This is in line with Egypt's Vision 2030.
El-Said pointed out that during the past period, the Ministry of Planning has taken many steps to enhance transparency and accountability. She also emphasized citizen participation in planning and follow-up.
These steps include issuing reports on “citizen follow-up in the governorates” and launching the “Sharek 2030” mobile application.
Regarding the Citizen’s Investment Plan in the New Valley Governorate, El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate reaches 206 projects and that the value of public investments directed to the New Valley Governorate in the 2023/22 plan amounts to EGP 3.9 billion, an increase of 62.5% over the previous year’s plan.
She noted that the plan included other projects launched through the Egyptian Rural Development Project "Haya Karima" (Decent Life). The first phase of the initiative included 26 villages in the New Valley Governorate, and the number of beneficiaries reached 34 thousand people.
Concerning the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in the New Valley Governorate in the 2023/22 plan, the report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development indicated that investments up to EGP 956.4 million were directed to the housing sector, at a rate of 24.5%, and EGP 538.9 million were allocated to the local development sector.
The higher education and scientific research sector received allocations of EGP 431 million, while the pre-university education sector received EGP 134 million.
Moreover, the water resources and irrigation sector generates EGP 105.1 million, or 2.6%.
According to the plan, other investments in other sectors amounted to EGP 1.8 billion, or 45.5% of the total.
The report indicated that the most critical development goals in the field of housing in the current year’s plan in the New Valley governorate are represented in directing EGP 275 million for drinking water and sanitation projects, and in the field of local development, EGP 178.9 million for paving local roads and directing EGP 16.2 million to support electricity networks in the governorate.
