Egypt Gov’t directs EGP 4.6 billion public investment to Kafr El-Sheikh governorate for FY 22/23: Minister of Planning

The Egyptian Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued a report reviewing the features of the Citizen's Investment Plan for the governorate of Kafr el-Sheikh for 22/2023, as part of the continuation of the announcement of the Citizen's Investment Plan in all governorates of the Egyptian Republic for the fourth consecutive year.
The report intends to raise awareness among citizens about the directions and priorities of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year (22/2023) and its role in achieving Egypt's Vision 2030.
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, emphasized that community participation is the key guarantee for localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level, achieving balanced regional development, and bridging development gaps between different governorates, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030 and Goal 17 is about revitalizing the global partnership for sustainable development. (SDG 17 - Partnerships for the goals).
El-Said added that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is keen to involve citizens at all stages of the development process, which begins with planning, follow-up, and impact assessment.
She further noted that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is always working to take accelerated steps toward creating the appropriate environment to enhance this participation, whether by providing data related to annual sustainable development plans in the form of issuing detailed, periodic implementation follow-up reports, or proposing priority initiatives and projects, within the framework of a comprehensive and integrated participatory approach, to achieve the leave no one behind (LNOB) principle.
Regarding the Citizen’s Investment Plan in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate.
El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate is 327.
The value of public investments directed to Kafr El-Sheikh governorate in the 2023/22 plan amounts to EGP 4.6 billion, with a growth rate of 7% compared to the 2022/21 plan.
Concerning the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in Kafr el-Sheikh governorate with a plan for 22/2023, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development report indicated that investments totaled EGP 1.2 billion for the health sector were directed at 27% followed by the housing sector worth EGP 1 billion by 22%, local development is EGP 765 million by 16% and then higher education and scientific research EGP 632 million by 14% and then the transport sector with investments of EGP 300 million by 6%. Other sectors in the governorate are investments worth EGP 682.8 million at a 15% return.
Moreover, the report indicated that the number of villages targeted by the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate is 18 villages, and the number of beneficiaries reached 302,000 people.
The report noted the main development targets for the housing sector in Kafrel-Sheikh in the 22/2023 plan, which directs EGP 439 million to drinking water and sanitation services. The number of development projects in this sector is 36, and the number in the local development sector is 190. In addition, there have been 25 projects in the health sector, including the development of primary care units and an Ophthalmology Hospital.
