Main / Media / News / The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development runs an introductory seminar on the National Initiative for Green Smart Projects.

11 April 2023

The National Initiative for Green Smart Projects (One of Egypt’s Ministry of Planning Initiatives) held an introductory seminar on the initiative in its second session, via video conference. This seminar was attended by representatives of governorates, ministries, and various agencies.

The introductory seminar witnessed the virtual presence of Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for Egypt and UN Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, Ambassador Hisham Badr, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, M. Khaled Mustafa, Permanent Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning and Dr. Hisham Al-Helbawy, Assistant Minister of Local Development.

Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin highlighted the coordination between all parties that contributed to the unprecedented initiative's success. He also praised the success of the initiative at Cop27. He stated that the general goals and objectives of that initiative are no less significant than the initiative itself.

Mohieldin stressed that the initiative's continuation represents a global translation of the five dimensions presented at Cop27. He also highlighted the significant outputs it has resulted in.

He further explained that the initiative's design was based on three pillars: the climate-related dimension and the green economy, digital transformation, and the impact on youth and women.

Ambassador Hisham Badr, General Coordinator of Egypt's Initiative for Smart Green Projects explained that the initiative was praised in more than one forum by local and international bodies. The partners considered it one of the most successful initiatives presented at COP27.

Badr referred to the Prime Minister’s decision to make the national initiative for smart green projects an annual initiative, explaining that the second phase had begun.

“The initiative continues to push for collective action in Egypt. It provides and implements smart solutions to deal with climate change impacts in Egypt, he said.

Badr stressed that the symposium saw wide participation from all governorates. In addition, it saw the growing interest of various entrepreneurs in the second session of the initiative, once it was launched.

He stressed the need to encourage companies and start-ups to progress and participate in the second session while ensuring that the number of youth and women participants is increased.

For his part, M. Khaled Mustafa said that the sustainability of the initiative after its launch under Egypt's COP27 presidency is just as critical as the launch of the initiative itself.

The induction symposium featured an introduction video on the National Smart Green Enterprise Initiative.
