Egypt Gov't directs EGP 4.3 billion public investment to Beni Suef Governorate for FY 22/23: Minister of Planning

Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued recently a report reviewing the features of the Citizen’s Investment Plan for Beni Suef Governorate for 2023/22.
The aforementioned report came within the framework of continuing to announce the citizen's plan in all governorates of the Republic. This was for the fourth year in a row. This announcement aims to educate citizens about the directions and priorities of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year (2023/22), and its role in achieving "Egypt's Vision 2030".
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, emphasized that community participation is the main guarantee for localizing sustainable development goals at the local level. This is done by achieving balanced regional development and bridging development gaps between the different governorates, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030.
El-Said added that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is keen to involve citizens in all stages of the development process, which begins with planning, follow-up, and impact assessment, and is always working to take accelerated steps toward creating the appropriate environment to enhance this participation.
Regarding the citizen's investment plan in Beni Suef Governorate, El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate reached 259 projects.
El-Said pointed out that public investments directed to Beni Suef governorate in the 2023/22 plan totaled 4.3 billion pounds. This was an increase of 13% over the 2022/21 plan.
Furthermore, she pointed out the projects directed through the Egyptian Rural Development Project, “A Decent Life.”
Concerning the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in Beni Suef Governorate, according to the 2023/22 plan, the report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development indicated directing investments worth EGP 1.2 billion to the transport sector, at a rate of 28%.
Followed by the higher education and scientific research sector with a value of EGP 885 million, or 20.6%, and the local development sector, EGP 658.9 million, or 15.3%, then the housing sector, EGP 488.5 million, or 11.4%, then the pre-university education sector EGP 322, 2 million, or 7.5%, and investments in other sectors in the governorate amount to EGP 745 million, or 17.2%.
The report indicated that the number of villages that benefited from the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative in Beni Suef Governorate is 66, totaling 838,000 people.
The most significant development projects in Beni Suef governorate that were implemented through the initiative and achieved SDGs are the establishment of 6 social units, 12 agricultural services complexes, 14 ambulance points, 42 health units, 780 classrooms, 82 schools, 4 family development centers, 6 stations for drinking water, 66 sewage projects, 8 treatment plants, as well as the construction of 65 mobile network towers to connect the optical fiber network, 29 youth centers, 12 government service complexes, 26 post offices, 12 police stations.
The report refers to the most significant SDGs in the housing sector in Beni Suef Governorate in the 2023/22 plan, which is to direct about EGP 435.3 million for drinking water and sanitation services, and the number of development projects in this sector is 56 projects.
