Egypt directs EGP 76 billion public investment to Giza Governorate on 22/23: Planning Minister

Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued a report reviewing the features of the Giza Governorate Citizen Investment Plan for FY 22/2023 on the occasion of the National Day of the Governorate which is celebrated on 31 March each year.
The announcement of the Giza Citizen Investment Plan for FY 22/2023 came as part of the further announcement of the citizen's plan in all the governorates of the Republic for the fourth consecutive year, to raise citizens' awareness of the directions and priorities of the Sustainable Development Plan for the fiscal year (22/2023) and its role in achieving "Egypt Vision 2030".
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, emphasized that community participation is the key guarantee for localizing the SDGs at the local level, achieving balanced regional development, and bridging development gaps between different governorates, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals: 17 Goals to Transform our World.
El-Said added that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is keen to involve citizens at all stages of the development process, which begins with planning, follow-up, and impact assessment.
The Planning Ministry is always working to take accelerated steps toward creating the appropriate environment to enhance this participation, whether by providing data related to annual sustainable development plans in the form of issuing periodic implementation & follow-up reports or proposing priority initiatives and projects, within the framework of a comprehensive and integrated participatory approach, to achieve the leave no one behind (LNOB) principle.
In the Citizen's Investment Plan in Giza Governorate, El-Said stated that the number of development projects in the governorate is 557.
She further noted that the value of public investments directed towards the Giza Governorate in the 22/2023 plan is EGP 76 billion, 15% more than the 21/2022 plan, other than projects directed through the Egyptian rural development project "Decent Life."
Regarding the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in Giza governorate in the 22/2023 plan, the report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development indicated that investments involving EGP 48.4 billion to the transport sector were directed at 63%.
Followed by the housing sector worth EGP 15 billion at 20%, the antiquities sector with EGP 3 billion at 4% and then higher education and scientific research at EGP 2.9 billion at 4%, and then the pre-university education sector with investments of EGP 431.9 million at 1%. There is also an investment worth EGP 6.5 billion in the governorate at an annual rate of 8%.
Moreover, the report indicated that the number of villages targeted for the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative in Giza governorate is 42 with 787,000 beneficiaries. The most important development projects in Giza governorate implemented through the initiative and achieving the sustainable development goals are the construction of 124 residential buildings for the most-favored families 9 social units, 11 agricultural services complexes, 16 ambulance points, 37 health units, 556 classrooms, 66 schools, together with 2 family development centers, 5 drinking water plants, 42 sanitation projects, 6 treatment plants as well as spreading 41 portable network towers connecting fiber optic network, 43 Youth Centres, 42 Government Service Complexes, 34 Post Offices, and 6 police points, in addition to rehabilitating and lining 95 km of grazing, paving 210 km of main and internal roads, 7 markets, 8 parking lots, as well as 42 electricity projects.
The report refers to the main development objectives of the housing sector in the Giza governorate in the 22/2023 plan.
These objectives include directing about EGP 2.3 billion for drinking water and sanitation services.
