Ambassador Hisham Badr, the general coordinator of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, indicated that the initiative confirms the Egyptian state's interest in climate change.
Badr pointed out that the initiative comes within the framework of the trend to empower the private sector, youth, and women. It also highlights the country's efforts to achieve sustainable development and digital transformation. In addition, it takes place in light of the national strategy for climate change in 2050.
Ambassador Hisham Badr explained that the initiative aims to create a social and motivational movement in all governorates. This emphasizes the importance of green and smart projects in various aspects of life.
The initiative's national coordinator praised the governorates' pivotal role and encouraged all groups and sectors to participate in the initiative.
Badr indicated that many governorates have started announcing the second session's launch. They are preparing to start work, receiving project requests and inquiries, and clarifying the criteria to be met by submitted projects.
Ambassador Hisham Badr added that the cooperation of ministries and various agencies from all sectors in the first round of the initiative has resulted in some gains, on top of which is creating the first database for smart green projects at the governorate level.
The initiative targets many areas, including projects that consider environmental sustainability standards. These standards reduce carbon and pollution emissions and preserve natural resources.
The initiative also includes several projects that promote energy and resource efficiency. It also includes projects addressing food security, water security, biodiversity, and ecosystem services.
The initiative includes various types of projects, including large-scale projects, medium-sized projects, and small local projects (primarily related to the Decent Life Initiative), in addition to projects submitted by startups, development projects related to women, climate change, and sustainability, and non-profit community initiatives and partnerships.
The National Committee for the initiative includes many ministries and concerned authorities. These ministries are represented by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Environment, International Cooperation, Communications, Local Development, and the National Council for Women. This council is headed by the Ministry of Planning.
