The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) - the training arm of the ministry - participated in the launch of the student activity "Youth for Sustainable Development" affiliated to the College of Business, Economics, and Political Science at the British University.
The student activity "Youth for Sustainable Development" aims to involve students in achieving sustainable development goals, through critical thinking and finding solutions to various environmental problems.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Sherifa El-Sherif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, welcomed the cooperation with the college administration to sponsor this student activity, and during her speech, she reviewed the establishment of the institute and its most prominent objectives, which include spreading the culture of sustainable development and establishing the principles of governance.
El-Sherif also referred to the activities carried out by the institute and the various training programs that it provides in both Arabic and English, in addition to the electronic educational platform "Estidama", which provides many training programs for distance learning.
El-Sherif indicated that cooperation mechanisms have been identified between the National Institute for Governance, Sustainable Development, and Student Activism. Among them comes the provision of an educational grant to some students who are members of the student activity to study an online training program on the educational platform, intending to prepare them to spread the idea of sustainability in their communities.
For her part, Amira Houssam, Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for Sustainable Development Affairs, reviewed the ministry's efforts in sustainable development. Among them, the launch of the Environmental Sustainability Standards Manual, and the training programs related to sustainability, especially the "Be an Ambassador" initiative, which aims to raise awareness of sustainable development goals and spread the culture of sustainability among youth.
The cooperation comes in the implementation of the British University in Egypt’s proposal under the auspices of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development for student activity "Youth for Sustainable Development" affiliated to the university.
