Main / Media / News / Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development Discusses Gov’t Investments in Communication & IT in FY 2023/2024

25 March 2023

Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development Dr. Ahmed Kamali met, virtually (via Video Conference), with the Assistant Minister of Communication for Infrastructure Eng. Raafat Hendy to discuss the investment plan for the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology for FY 2023/24.

The virtual meeting witnessed the participation of Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan and Head of the Infrastructure and Service Activities Sector Eng. Nehad Morsi.

During the meeting, Dr. Ahmed Kamali pointed out the importance of the communication and information technology sector. This is due to its significant role in consolidating sustainable development components and accelerating sustainable growth.

It motivates and guides investment, production, and operation decisions, according to Kamali.

He also stressed the state's keenness to support the communication and information technology sector as part of its digital transformation. This is given its positive impact on economic growth, and stimulation of the private sector.

Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development emphasized that investment in the communication sector is in line with Egypt’s National Program for Structural Reform goals which aim to maximize the value of the different sectors of the real economy.

He also addressed the fact that the communication sector witnessed significant development during the Covid-19 Pandemic in Egypt.

“The aim is to multiply the relative weight of the communication and information technology sector in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2024/25,” Kamali said.

Dr. Kamali pointed out that given the current state directives of rationalizing government spending patterns, the priority is to complete already existing projects.

On the other hand, Eng. Raafat Hendy displayed the indicators of the communication and information technology sector for 2021/22 and compared them to previous years. He also read through Egypt's positive development in international indicators during 2018-2022.

Finally, he mentioned the importance of investing in infrastructure in this sector to keep moving forward.

This will improve Egypt's communication and information technology competitiveness.
