The Minister of Planning and Economic Development participates in the 7th International Scientific Conference of the Union of Arab Statisticians.

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, participated - on behalf of the Prime Minister - in the Seventh International Scientific Conference of the Union of Arab Statisticians.
The conference was held at the headquarters of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMS) under the slogan "Activating Statistical Studies in the Arab World to Achieve the Strategic Development Goals".
The conference witnessed the presence of Dr. Majed Othman, President of the Union of Arab Statisticians. Dr. Ghazi Ibrahim Raho, Secretary General of the Union. Major General Khairat Barakat, Head of CAPMS. In addition, there were a number of academics, experts, and researchers from Arab countries.
During her speech, Dr. Hala El-Said stressed the importance of the conference, which contributes to building Arab capabilities in its endeavor to keep abreast of scientific developments in various statistical fields and to strengthen the efforts of brotherly Arab countries to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.
El-Said stressed the importance of the role that statistics play in the economy and development plans.
El-Said pointed out that Egypt has known the science of statistics since ancient times, and was able to excel in it through the various statistics carried out by ancient Egyptian institutions, foremost among them the CAPMS.
El-Said also drew attention to the accurate, high-quality statistical data issued by the agency, as it is an essential part of the country's national and knowledge wealth, no less significant than the infrastructure it possesses in various fields.
El-Said said that the theme of this year's conference is "activating statistical studies in the Arab world to achieve the strategic development goals", embodying the importance of exchanging experiences between Arab countries and activating the use of statistics in planning, policy-making, and decision-making.
The Minister of Planning and Economic Development added that this conference is of great importance due to the fact that it represents a forum and platform for dialogue between elite experts and scientific cadres in the various statistical fields that our Arab world abounds in, which contributes to building relations and enhancing inter-cooperation between brotherly countries.
Dr. Hala El-Said indicated that this year's conference coincides with rapid changes and unprecedented economic, social, and geopolitical challenges witnessed by the whole world, with the brotherly Arab countries at the heart of it, which negatively affect the efforts made by governments to achieve development.
El-Said explained that the conference and the high-level participation it witnesses, and the activities included in the work program over the course of the two days, is a scientific statistical forum, and an important occasion to enhance aspects of cooperation and common links between Arab statistical agencies.
The day witnessed the participation of the Minister of Planning in distributing medals of statistical excellence and honoring innovators in the field of statistics in the Arab countries. Dr. Hala El-Said also received the federation’s shield on behalf of Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister
